Fans of classic horror comics are about to get a seriously monstrous collection. The Complete Tales from the Crypt Archive HC will collect the complete original run of EC Comics’ legendary Tales from the Crypt in a massive 1,032-page hardcover arriving in November 2026. Published by Dark Horse Comics as part of its EC Archives line, the enormous collection is designed as the definitive Tales from the Crypt book, bringing together every story from the original series along with its covers, text pieces, and illustrations. The collection will retail for $149.99.

For horror fans who grew up with the iconic HBO television series, this is also a chance to dig into the comic book that started it all.

The Complete Tales from the Crypt Archive Collects the Original EC Comics Run

Tales from the Crypt was one of the most famous horror anthology comics published by EC Comics during the early 1950s. Created by publisher Bill Gaines and editor and writer Al Feldstein, the series became part of EC’s horror lineup alongside The Haunt of Fear and The Vault of Horror.

The title officially debuted with issue #20 in October/November 1950 after the comic had gone through several previous titles, including International Comics, International Crime Patrol, Crime Patrol and The Crypt of Terror. It continued as Tales from the Crypt through issue #46 in February/March 1955. Now, the entire original run is being collected in one volume.

According to the publisher, The Complete Tales from the Crypt Archive will collect the complete original Tales from the Crypt run while also preserving additional material that includes every cover, text piece, and illustration from the original magazine. The hardcover will contain 1,032 full-color pages, making it a massive horror archive.

Classic Horror Artists Featured in the Collection

One of the biggest attractions of Tales from the Crypt was EC Comics’ extraordinary roster of artists. The collection brings together work from the legendary creators associated with the title, including Johnny Craig, Graham “Ghastly” Ingels, Jack Davis, Wally Wood and Reed Crandall. The listed creators for the collection also include writers Bill Gaines, Al Feldstein and Carl Wessler, artists Graham Ingels and Wally Wood, colorists Marie Severin and Carlos Badilla, and cover artist Jack Davis.

The book will also include previously published forewords from major horror figures, including John Carpenter and Bruce Campbell.

What Is Tales from the Crypt About?

Unlike a conventional serialized comic book, Tales from the Crypt was an anthology, with each issue presenting a collection of standalone horror stories. The comics became famous for their gruesome twists, dark humor, supernatural nightmares, and memorable monsters and murderers. The series also featured the iconic Crypt-Keeper, whose introductions and conclusions helped give the comic its unique personality.

The horror anthology format eventually became one of the most recognizable aspects of the Tales from the Crypt name, and its influence extended well beyond EC Comics. The original comic ended in 1955 as horror and crime comics faced scrutiny over their alleged connection to juvenile delinquency. The controversy surrounding the comics industry eventually contributed to the creation of the Comics Code Authority.

Tales from the Crypt Became a Horror TV Classic

For an entire generation of horror fans, however, Tales from the Crypt became <a href="https://comicvibe.com/the-18-best-netflix-shows-of-2026-so-far/” title=”The 18 Best Netflix Shows of 2026 (So Far)”>best known as a television series. Inspired by the EC Comics, HBO’s Tales from the Crypt premiered in 1989 and ran for seven seasons and 93 episodes, concluding in 1996. The series turned the Crypt-Keeper into an even more recognizable horror icon and featured a long list of famous actors and filmmakers throughout its run.

The franchise has also appeared in other forms, including a 1972 film and later comic book revivals. But the new Dark Horse collection goes back to the as one of the most influential horror anthology titles of the 1950s
