§ Hot off the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, Marvel revealed Meals to Astonish: Avengers, a one-shot created in collaboration with chef José Andrés‘s World Central Kitchen, by Steve Orlando and Roi Mercado. The comic, due out October 14, sees Andrés and Tony Stark head to Las Vegas to unveil new disaster relief tech, only to be attacked by Ultron. The book will also include a new installment of “Jeff’s Table,” Paul Eschbach & E.J. Su‘s T.E.S.T. Kitchen Infinity Comic, and more, including the introduction of “Venomnom” by Jacob Chabot. The first Meals to Astonish comic, co-starring Spider-Man, was released on March 11.
§anthology series from Matt Kindt’s imprint, debuting October 7. The first issue will feature three new stories from creators like Brian Hurtt, David Lapham, Alison Sampson, and Matt’s daughter Ella Kindt (who’s previously contributed to covers on her father’s series). The series is intended to run between arcs of Kindt’s Mind MGMT: New & Improved, the second issue of which will be released this week
§ Mad Cave announced Pop Kill: Big Candy, a new installment of Jimmy Palmiotti, Dave Johnson, and Juan Santacruz‘s corporate espionage thriller from 2025. Now centered around candy instead of cola companies, the book picks up eight months later, and finds Jon Pyle and Dina Deluxe being marked for death by “a secret candy consortium” after Dina unveils a revolutionary substitute for sugar. Issue #1 will be released on October 7, shortly after another Palmiotti Mad Cave series, Denver, begins on August 26.
§ Image will release Ice Cream Man: Chocolate/Vanilla Twist, a black-and-white edition of the first issue of W. Maxwell Prince and Martín Morazzo‘s horror series, on October 14. The comic will include a decoder lens for hidden messages on the cover; new lettering by Good Old Neon; and a new short story from the book’s creative team. The release will help pave the way for issue #50 (due out sometime next year) of the series, which debuted back in 2018.
§ Dynamite had several announcements, including the omnibus of Pierce Brown et al.’s Red Rising: Sons of Ares (2017-23) getting a new print run; a behind-the-scenes special Ben 10: Creator Files, featuring an ashcan of the first issue and more this November; and an extension of the partnership between Dynamite Kids and Nickelodeon extending through 2027. § Variety shares Disney+ has ordered Afterlife With Archie to series. The show, based on the horror comic by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla, was first reported to be in-development last year, and will follow Archie and the Riverdale gang as they’re confronted by a wave of zombies. Aguirre-Sacasa, who was the showrunner on Riverdale, also wrote the script for the TV version of Afterlife, which now has a Halloween 2027 release window.
§ The new Masters of the Universe movie will be available to stream on Prime Video from tomorrow, July 22. The film, which marked the first live-action take on the franchise since the 1987 movie, was a box office disappointment, only grossing $113.6 million worldwide against a $170 mil budget, but it received mostly positive reviews, and earned four nominations from the Critics’ Choice Super Awards (being held August 6), including Best Superhero Movie, and Best Actor in that category for Nicholas Galitzine‘s portrayal of Prince Adam/He-Man.
§ Finally, Gosh! Comics in London, England, will celebrate their 40th anniversary with a free signing from 2000 AD veterans Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons and Mick McMahon. The signing will be held on Saturday, August 15, at 2pm local time, and be limited to five items per fan. Gosh! and Rebellion typically find a way to celebrate 2000 AD every year, and the event comes ahead of the magazine’s own 50th anniversary next year.
