Taylor Swift songs have been removed from videos posted online by Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House.
Dozens of artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have called on the Trump administration not to use their songs.
The Trump campaign used two Swift songs on its TikTok page over the last week. One, playing on her lyrics, featured captions such as “Red (Donald Trump’s Version)” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (The Biden Harris Administration)”.
In June, Mr Trump’s campaign posted a clip on the short-form video platform featuring I Knew It, I Knew You, Swift’s new Toy Story 5 song.
The video was captioned: “Nobody loves our country & the American People more than @President Donald J Trump.” The shared clip showed him interacting with children at the White House, dancing at a UFC match and appearing at a rally.
In April, the White House shared a video of the crew of Artemis II meeting with Mr Trump. The video used Swift’s High Infidelity and lyrics from the song: “Do you really want to know where I was April 29th?”
The White House shared another TikTok video in November featuring The Fate of Ophelia from Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl album, which was released the month before. That video featured images of the US flag, monuments and various photos of the president, including his 2023 arrest mugshot.
That post garnered widespread social media reaction and led to a White House spokesman telling multiple news outlets the video was created because the Trump administration knew news outlets “would breathlessly amplify them”.
Mr Trump’s communication team has integrated an array of hit songs into social media posts, including the president’s immigration crackdown, US military operations against Iran and the arrest of Nicolas Maduro, the former Venezuelan president.
The White House and a representative for Swift did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Swift has not spoken recently about Mr Trump, although in 2024, she endorsed his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris. During the 2020 campaign, Swift posted on social media that Mr Trump was “WELL AWARE we do not want him as our president”.
The president has held a grudge against Swift for several years, and has repeatedly criticised the musician.
Mr Trump wrote on social media: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” He warned the singer that she would “pay a price for [endorsing Ms Harris] in the marketplace”.
Last year, he also attacked Swift on his Truth Social platform, writing: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'”
