Chainsmoker Cat, also known asYani Nekoin Japan, is an anime currently streaming on Netflix that follows a broke catgirl with a severe smoking addiction. Since its July premiere on Netflix,Chainsmoker Cathas quickly become one of the most talked-about and bizarre releases of the summer anime season.

Taipei, Aug. 21 (CNA) Health Minister Shih Chung-liang (石崇良) said Friday that the Japanese anime series “Chainsmoker Cat” (尼古喵喵) contains scenes that violate Taiwan’s tobacco control rules, including close-ups of cigarette brands and smoking scenes without health warnings.

Chainsmoker Cat (尼古喵喵), an anime show, might contravene the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act (菸害防制法) by promoting smoking, the John Tung Foundation said yesterday, adding that it has submitted a formal complaint.
