Welcome back to Super Sonic Monthly! We’re speeding toward a major milestone as IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog approaches issue #100, and this month’s edition is packed with <a href="https://comicvibe.com/the-foundry-3-preview-when-your-uber-crashes-in-monster-country/” title=”The Foundry #3 Preview: When Your Uber Crashes in Monster Country”>previews, exciting teases, and answers to your burning fan questions!

For Super Sonic Monthly #8, we’ve got two exclusive previews to share! First up, Sonic’s battle with the King of the Monsters continues in Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #4, arriving November 11. Then, get an early look at Sonic the Hedgehog #92, hitting comic shops December 9.

But that’s only the beginning! The Sonic editorial team is back to answer your questions, and they’ve got some pretty exciting news to share. The revelations include a slightly spooky Amy Rose one-shot coming in March, a special spotlight on Tails, and confirmation that Sonic the Hedgehog will continue beyond its landmark 100th issue, with a brand-new adventure beginning in #101. Plus, Silver and Blaze have important roles in the Road to 100, Tangle and Whisper are gearing up for the big showdown, and plenty of hints point to what awaits Sonic and his friends.

There are some fun character insights!

Before we dive in, don’t forget that all four volumes ofSonic the Hedgehog: On the Go!are available now! As always, we appreciate you pre-ordering Sonic the Hedgehog at your local comic shop. It’s a great way to support the series and make sure you don’t miss an issue.

Now, let’s get into Super Sonic Monthly #8!

    – Lilypadstar asks: Are there any special plans for Tails in the newer issues? He is quite in focus in most of the new cover art!

Sonic Editorial:You have a keen eye! While Tails will have his own part to play in the ongoing series, he will also get his chance to shine in a special of his own! We can’t share too much about this book yet, but just know that we’ve got something brewing for the Tails fans!

    – Gabry asks: Are there any more one-offs like Knuckles’ 30th special or short arcs like Fang’s in the works? Thanks!

Sonic Editorial:Well, yes! We’re happy to announce a slightly spooky Amy one-shot hitting the shelves in March! We hope to create more character-focused specials in the future!

    – Clay Pin asks: Can we see more crossovers happen in the future (TMNT specifically, as IDW has both licenses)?

Sonic Editorial:All I can say is that we’d also love to see Sonic quip his way across the multiverse.

    – fivedudey asks: please please please tell me my goat Silver’s gonna be relevant in the future

Sonic Editorial:Fans of Silver should definitely pick up Issues #89-91, since he and Blaze are verycrucial to the Road to 100, especially at this point. Don’t tell anyone, but the pair will also appear in issues #97 onward, as everything is revealed!

    – Mike Zhou asks: Will Tangle and Whisper (as well as all other SONIC characters from past and present)join the fun for SONIC 100?

Sonic Editorial:Sonic #100 is going to be massive. All of the characters who have appeared and fought along the Road to 100 will play a critical role in this epic showdown. It’ll be a comic event that you won’t want to miss!

    – dailyturnip asks: Doctor Starline is my favorite character in the entire Sonic franchise (wow!) What did a perfectly evil day in the life look like for him (pre-Rubble, of course…)

Sonic Editorial:Writer Ian Flynn chimed in for this one! “He gets up early, has his first cup of coffee, then checks on the progress of his long-term research. He’ll look over databases of Eggman tech (for fun!), have lunch with his third cup of coffee, and check back in on his various projects. Night comes, he makes his last observations and notes them down, has a nice relaxing eleventh cup of coffee, then sleeps like a rock.”

    – Seamus asks: Hello, I was wondering who the team’s favorite IDW characters are and why. My favorite is Lanolin because she’s super serious.

Sonic Editorial:This is an impossible question! Since many of our writers answered this question in Super Sonic Monthly #4, maybe we, the editors, should take a swing at it.  My (Riley!) favorite character has always been Metal Sonic, since his story in the 2020 annual. But I also really love Tails because he’s just so precious. I also have a soft spot for Amy, since the artists and writers always tell me that I am most like her.

    – Seamus asks: Do you guys think that Tangle and Surge would make an interesting team-up? The two like action, and while they are very different, I think they would have fun together.

Sonic Editorial:This is a great point! They’re both such bombastic characters who love their quieter, more reserved friends! In the future, we would loveto team them up! Maybe once all of this business with the Mysterious Stranger is handled…

    – Gabry asks: Are we ever going to see more Trip the Sungazer? I loved seeing her in Knuckles 30th special and would love to see more into her world!

    This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Sonic Editorial:We love Trip, too! Rest easy; she will continue to appear in our comics, especially in our specials!

    – Julia asks: Hello IDW Sonic Team! I was wondering: Who is the one who decides to hide those little easter eggs or characters, like Ian Jr. or Barry from TMOSH, in the panels? Is it the writer, the artist, or someone else?

Sonic Editorial:Our writers and artists can be a bit cheeky and sneak in references to other entries in the Sonic universe!

    – Tomiipepe asks: I have never seen Kit eat in the comic; does he ever eat? Since he is a cyborg, is his body able to live on water alone? If he does eat, does he have any favorite foods?

Sonic Editorial:Kit is not actuallya cyborg! Rather, he’s a Fennec enhanced with cybernetic tech, so he and Surge both need to eat! In fact, their lack of food is a major motivator in Issue #67.

As for what his favorite food is, we actually didn’t know, so we asked the creator of Kit, Starline Ian Flynn. Kit’s favorite food is whatever Surge tells him is his favorite food. Except mint candy. Tails loves it, so he hates it.

    – Julia asks: How much freedom do the artists have when drawing a comic issue? Can they design the pages and panels however they think best, or do they get specifications for how each page and panel should look?

Sonic Editorial:Comics are based around collaboration and the synthesis of the word and the image. As such, our artists get a good amount of freedom when designing a page. Our writers will describe the scene, from the action happening to the character’s emotions. From there, the artist takes that information and arranges the composition to best serve the visual storytelling, whether that be adding or removing panels or adjusting the placements of characters. The artists interpret the words of our writers and breathe their own life into them, well, while still fitting the 6.625″ × 10.1875″ print format!

    – Mike Zhou asks: Will there be More SONIC comics after issue 100?

Sonic Editorial:Of course! Sonic’s not done saving the day quite yet! The Sonic the Hedgehog comics will continue in #101 with an all-new adventure! Not only that, but we have a lot of mini-series on the horizon!

    – Berekia asks: How do you choose which artist will do the artwork for the pages?

Sonic Editorial:We are lucky that we have so many talented artists excited to work on the Sonic comics. As such, we try to match an artist’s specific tone to the needs of the story. A good example of this is the Chaotix’s 30th Anniversary Special, where we got to play around with so many different styles that allowed our artists to shine in their very different sections!

    – Berekia asks: Since issue 100 is coming soon, any check-ins on how it would be handled?

Sonic Editorial:We don’t want to spoil too much of what’s to come, but we can hint at a few things… Everyone will be there, there will be a lotof mist, an organ will be played, and anotherflying ship will crash. I can’t say much more than that!

    – Tomiipepe asks: There was a scene in the comic where Kit was sleeping buried under many pillows! I love that scene! Is there a deeper meaning for him to do that?

Sonic Editorial:Beyond the fact that he is a cutie patootie, he is also a Fennec Fox! In a reference to the real-life Fennec fox, which burrows dens into the sands of the Saharan desert, Kit also enjoys a cozy bed!

    – Clay Pin asks: Is there a way for fans to design a cover for the Sonic comics?

Sonic Editorial:Actually, a lot of our cover artists started as Sonic fans! While we don’t accept unsolicited covers, we do hire artists from different or even from our fan letter email! – EmilyFromZero asks: Is there any chance of a story involving Infinite?

Sonic Editorial:Glad to see that he left an impression… There’s always a chance that he’ll appear!
