Studio unveils 3D sculpture for animation, collectibles, merchandise
Afriwood Studios has released a first look at the developing 3D sculpture of Zazuu, an original villain within its expanding African superhero universe.
The work-in-progress sculpture is being created as a production asset for future animation, collectible figures, merchandise and related entertainment projects.
Zazuu is a central antagonist in the world surrounding Shutter-Bird, Nigeria’s first live-action superhero. His introduction expands the Afriwood Universe beyond its flagship heroine and opens the door to new storylines, character-driven products and visual experiences.
The sculpture presents Zazuu with a distinctive robotic arm, textured African hairstyle, beaded necklace, Africa-shaped pendant and crossbody bag. His commanding pose and detailed sculptural base highlight the character’s potential as both an animated figure and a collectible product.
According to Afriwood Studios, the 3D model will serve as a foundation for developing the character across multiple formats, including animation, collectible figurines, merchandise, promotional materials and future screen productions.
The project forms part of the company’s broader strategy to build original African intellectual property through a connected pipeline of character design, digital sculpture, storytelling and consumer products.
“Zazuu is being developed not only as a character within our storytelling universe, but also as a creative asset for animation, collectible figures and other future projects,” said Urenna Amadi, an award-winning, U.S.-based Nigerian filmmaker, sculptor, and founder and Creative Director of Afriwood Studios.
The company said Zazuu’s design will continue to evolve as development progresses.
Afriwood Studios is an African-led entertainment company headquartered in Owerri, Imo State, with a U.S. Liaison Office in Newark, New Jersey. The company develops original African characters and storytelling properties across comics, animation, film, merchandise and live experiences.
