A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, the multiverse came calling. Because, the ultimate geek crossover is on the way. When Avengers: Infinity War dropped in 2018, it was dubbed the “most ambitious crossover event of all time” – and the same could perhaps be said for Star Wars | Marvel: Hope Assembles, a comic book series in which the worlds of, you guessed it, Marvel and Star Wars collides.
The five-issue season, which will launch to mark the 50th anniversary of Star Wars in 2027, is being written by somebody who knows both of those worlds intimately: Kevin Smith. And art comes from Marvel regular David Marquez. Details on the story are scarce, but it’s set in the Earth-616 universe, with a spell causing the events of A New Hope to crash into reality – meaning the likes of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Han Solo will be crossing paths with Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Guardians Of The Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, and Black Panther. The covers were revealed by Entertainment Weekly.
“Back in the early ‘80s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics. And as fun as it was to follow the continuing adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross over into their cinematic saga,” Smith said in a statement, reported by EW. “So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand! I’m ecstatic to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars! Many thanks to Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm for trusting me to fly the Falcon and the Quinjet!”
The crossover is a significant partnership – though Marvel and Star Wars have long existed in similar spheres, both owned by Disney, and with Marvel publishing many official Star Wars comics. Still, the Force will hopefully be Infinity Stone-strong with this one – prepare for the issues to drop between January and May 2027.
