    • Paramount+ is in the process of planning the next iteration of the Star Trek franchise after the endings of Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy, with writers being approached to determine the right direction.
    • Paramount+ executive Jane Wiseman has confirmed that Star Trek remains a top priority for the company, with efforts being made to figure out the next phase of the franchise, although specific details such as title, setting, timeline, and creative team have not been revealed yet.
    • While a new Star Trek movie is in development, Paramount+ is currently focused on finding a creative direction for the franchise’s next phase after the current TV shows conclude, with no immediate announcement expected.

The Star Trek franchise is approaching a major change as two Paramount+ TV shows near their endings.Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy are nearing the end of the current roadmap, and the streamer is already planning what comes next.

Paramount+ has not yet announced its next Star Trek series. However, executives have confirmed that writers are being approached as the studio searches for the right direction for the franchise.

The update was shared in a recent Deadline interview with Paramount+ executive Jane Wiseman. She said the company is working with CBS Studios and taking time to determine the next chapter.

Paramount begins planning Star Trek’s next iteration

Jane Wiseman shared that Star Trek remains a major priority for Paramount+. She also mentioned Chris Parnell, the company’s “resident number one fan” of the franchise.

She stated, “It is our goal, and it is our job to figure out what the next bounce of Star Trek is. We’re talking to a lot of writers; we are leaning on CBS Studios, and it is imperative that we figure out what the next iteration is in this franchise because it’s just too important.”

Wiseman did not reveal the title, setting, timeline, or creative team for the project. Judging from her comments, Paramount+ is still evaluating ideas rather than preparing an immediate announcement.

The current shows have explored different periods within the Star Trek universe. Strange New Worlds follows Captain Christopher Pike and the USS Enterprise before Kirk takes command. Starfleet Academy focuses on young cadets training for careers in the United Federation of Planets.

Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures continues developing a separate Star Trek movie. The studio has not announced when the next television series will be revealed.

As of now, Paramount+ is focused on finding a “creative direction” that can carry the franchise into its next phase after the current shows conclude.
