Smithsonian Channel will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek with a two-hour special that will take a look at the lasting influence the original Star Trek series has had on the world. BUILDING STAR TREK will premiere Sunday, September 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel.

BUILDING STAR TREK will follow the conservation team from the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum as they attempt to restore and conserve the original 11-foot, 250-pound model of the U.S.S. Enterprise from

Even America’s largest theater chain is celebrating six decades ofTrek-ing.

There hasn’t been any shortage of celebrating when it comes to commemorating the Star Trek franchise’s 60 anniversary. Even with the year’s biggest shindig currently underway in Las Vegas a full month ahead of when The Original Series’ first episode, “The Man Trap,” first aired on NBC six decades ago (Sept. 8, 1966), now AMC Theatres is setting its own phasers to fun.

Yes, the largest theater chain in the United States just announced today (Friday, August 7) that four “mystery” toppers are being released for their concession cups commemorating 60 years of Star Trek, which, of course, includes one of the many delicious fountain-drink flavors AMC offers its customers.

Check out an image of the collectible topper below, courtesy of AMC’s official Instagram account.

Now, unless the image AMC released is a misdirect — I don’t believe it is — there isn’t much of a mystery surrounding the four cup toppers the theater chain will be offering. As I’m sure other Star Trek fans can also plainly see, the USS Enterprise from The Original Series, the Enterprise-A from the feature films, the Reliant, and the Excelsior (or perhaps it’s the Enterprise-B) are all revealed in the promotional photo.

In addition to the cup toppers, AMC will also be offering a popcorn container featuring TOS’ version of the Enterprise mounted on top of the Star Trek 60th anniversary logo. And, yes, purchasing the collectible includes a full bucket’s worth of popcorn to fill it.

Personally, I think it’s great that AMC is getting in on the franchise’s 60th anniversary celebration. However, it would be even better if there were a new Star Trek film in cinemas this fall to watch while enjoying some popcorn and soda in these upcoming collectible containers.

I’m most excited to get my hands on AMC’s giant Star Trek 60 popcorn container, but none of the collectibles go on sale until Friday, Sept. 4. Which of the cup toppers are you most interested in adding to your own collection? Share your choices with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.

    Live long and prosper, Trekkies!

The Bear finished on Hulu last month after five years of yelling, screaming, tantrum-throwing, and oodles of delicious food. Fans who love the series are already missing its unique and realistic brand of humor and storytelling, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other series out there that can fill the void
