Singer Oli, speaking recently with the Center for Reproductive Rights and making the bold claim that pro-life laws are “pro-control, not pro-life.”

    Key Takeaways:

    • Singer Oliuctive Rights, where she spoke in favor of abortion

    • In one of her comments, she said pro-life laws are not pro-life, but instead are “pro-control.”

    • Rodrigo has a long history of supporting abortion.

    The Details:

Rodrigo spoke recently with the Center for Reproductive Rights during a discussion centered around abortion. In videos shared to social media on July 21, the pop star made several comments showcasing her support of abortion.

In a conversation with attorney Autumn Katz, Rodrigo asked Katz what it’s like working with people in states with “abortion bans.”

Never miss the latest news in the fight for life.

“Honestly, it’s brutal out there,” Katz said. “Since Roe fell, the Center has challenged abortion bans in 10 states, and the stories that we hear from our clients are really gut-wrenching.” She presented several stories of women who claimed they needed an abortion, but were unable to get one.

“Not very pro-life to harm these women’s health for the long term and see them in the ICU,” Rodrigo said. “It’s just so terrifying… It’s pro control.”

Another conversation spread misinformation about the abortion pill mifepristone, with Meetra Mehdizadeh, Senior Attorney, U.S. Litigation, telling Rodrigo:

We’re making a movie! Live Action’s debut feature film, Rise Above, is currently in production, and we need your help to get it across the finish line. When you give $50 or more by July 31st, your gift will help support the production and release of this inspiring film AND will unlock exclusive perks like production updates, behind-the-scenes content, and more. The bigger the gift, the more perks you unlock!

“We have decades of studies showing that it is safe and effective, millions of people have gotten medication abortions since mifepristone was FDA approved. But right now, anti-abortion extremists are trying to get additional, unnecessary restrictions added to mifepristone to make it more difficult to access.”

What Mehdizadeh didn’t mention was that numerous studies and analyses have found mifepristone to be more dangerous than the FDA label indicates, and that a whopping six percent of women end up seeking emergency care following chemical abortions. And these numbers aren’t just seen in the United States.

The interviews were part of a promotional lead-up to Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival, an all-women’s music festival which will donate some of its proceeds to fund abortion and abortion-supporting groups.

    Zoom Out:

Rodrigo has positioned herself as an abortion supporter numerous times. In 2024, she made waves after she allowed the distribution of information on emergency contraception and information on how to get an abortion at her concerts, which a large number of children attend.

She also launched a pro-abortion fund, to which she gave $2 million from her Guts World Tour proceeds. Among those recipients was the National Network of Abortion Funds, which pays to help women kill their preborn children.

Last year, Rodrigo accepted the Catalyst for Change award from Planned Parenthood of Greater New York at its annual gala, during which she insinuated that women cannot be successful without the legal ability to intentionally end their preborn children’s lives through abortion.
