If you’ve opened the year playing the historical figure of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the second season of Freedom at Midnight, where do you go from there? To a far more internal story, if you’re Sidhant Gupta. The actor has starred in Duet, a short film directed by Sheetal Menon and backed by Bejoy Nambiar.
Duet came to him through Vikramaditya Motwane, who had given him his breakthrough <a href="https://comicvibe.com/top-5-series-to-watch-this-week/” title=”Top 5 series to watch this week”>series Jubilee (2023). Gupta told mid-day, “Vikramaditya Motwane called me and said, âIt’s a short film. Just read it, only you can do it!’ When I read it, I wondered who wrote this piece of art in today’s times. I eventually met Sheetal Menon, who was holding on to the 30-page script for over a year-and-a-half.”

To play a pianist dealing with loss, Gupta tried his hand at playing the piano and spent nine months on the short film. According to the actor, the character demanded such immersion. “I still wonder how I was able to find my way into playing as much as I could. Duet is a powerful film, enough to bring solace to the one who’s suffering. After Jubilee, I read quite a few scripts and nothing mainstream was sticking. Duet came along and gave me sleepless nights.”

His next outing is director Priyanka Ghose’s Teen Kauwe that also features Bobby Deol and Fatima Sana Shaikh. For Gupta, the opportunity was as much about the ensemble as the show’s world. “Bobby Deol is a gem of a person. I can’t wait for everyone to witness the A-game that every actor has brought into the show. It’s a slick and sexy espionage show.”
Sidhant Gupta’s name has been linked toAamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker’s âLalkaara’, based on cricketer Lala Amarnath’s life. When asked about it, Gupta teased, “It’s too soon to be talking about any project.”
