Undefeated Tupelo, Mississippi, takes on Portland, Oregon, for a spot in the American Legion World Series championship game
Tupelo, Mississippi, rolled to a 3-0 record in the Stripes pool at the American Legion World Series to advance to Monday’s semifinal matchup against Portland, Oregon, at Veterans Field at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, North Carolina. Portland, which finished 1-2 in the Stars pool, won a tiebreaker over Bedford, New Hampshire, and Jacksonville, Florida, to advance to the semifinals. Mississippi reached the World Series as champions of the Mid-South Region while Oregon won the Northwest Region title.

Mississippi completed its unbeaten run in pool play with a 6-2 victory over Fairfield, California, on Sunday. Eli McDaniels hit a solo home run in the third inning to give Mississippi a 3-0 lead and Wyatt McDaniels capped Mississippi’s scoring with a two-run shot in the fifth. Colin Flurry added an RBI single in the first and Ethan Cates doubled in a run in the fifth. Seven pitchers worked one inning each, teaming up on a five-hitter.
Oregon lost its final pool game on Sunday, falling to Midland, Michigan, 4-3 on a walk-off walk in the seventh inning. Oregon took a 2-0 lead in the third on a run-scoring error and a fielder’s choice RBI by Cal Gradwahl before Ben Foglio tied the game in the sixth when he scored from first base on an error in the outfield.
The winner advances to Tuesday night’s championship game against the winner of Monday’s semifinal between Midland, Michigan, and Lincoln, Nebraska.
