At the “Battle For Dream Island: The SDCC Panel” on Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, the creative team behind the long-running webseries discussed the show and teased two upcoming projects that will reward fans for years of waiting.

During their presentation at the San Diego Central Library, Michael and Cary Huang, the brothers who co-created Battle for Dream Island, shared a first look at Battle For Dream Island Again Episode 5B for download and online play. The episode was released 13 years ago as a browser game, but the new version — which will launch on PC and probably the Switch — will apparently be more elaborate, “finished,” and will also fulfill a desire the audience has been making known for years.

“The phrase ‘5B for Switch’ has been somewhat of a meme within our community for probably as long as the Switch has existed or been around,” Michael Huang told The Beat. “It feels strange seeing it finally actually become a literal description of what is going to happen. It just feels like it was just in the ether for years and years, so I felt like it was only natural. To be able to bring the game to like outside of our own little sort of Newgrounds-esque niche internet bubble, into the console that I just associate with being the premiere kids’ console is strange.”

Jacknjellify, the company founded by the Huangs, also announced that IDFB 2—the second episode of the show’s third season—will drop soon, sharing some teaser footage with the audience. The thing about IDFB is that while it is the third of six seasons in the series, it also ran only a single episode in 2016, before the creatives went in another direction and pursued a different storyline for season four. The completion of IDFB is something that has been long teased, but—like the Switch game—felt like it might never happen.

Each season of Battle for Dream Island is delineated not by a numeral but a new title. IDFB is technically “dnalsI maerD roF elttaB,” while Battle For Dream Island Again is the recently-concluded second season.

“I think BFDI has just always been super at a glacial pace when it comes to when projects start and finish. I think that’s been a curse that’s held us for as long as we’ve existed,” said Michael Huang. “I think it’s because it started as just me and my brother, whatever we had on our computers, sits with us forever. I felt like it’s natural—it just is the personality of BFDI that anything that starts, people are gonna ask for it to continue, and if it hasn’t finished, then people are wondering. It’s still gonna remain an open question.

“We didn’t know if BFDIA was gonna continue after BFDIA 6, which came out in 2013. We didn’t know if we were gonna finish it until, 10 years later in 2023 when we finally had a crew and we could finish it,” he continued. “To finish BFDIA 5B and also continue IDFB, it just feels like just more of the same thing that we had going with BFDIA.”

At the SDCC panel, the Huangs also shared some animatic footage from an upcoming episode of TPoT—The Power of Two—the show’s currently-ongoing fifth season.

“[The video is] going to be an excerpt from TPoT 25,” Michael Huang explained. “What’s being played right now at our tour is TPoT 24. Over the last two weeks, in New York and Atlanta, we played TPoT 24, and we’re gonna keep playing that same episode even though it’s not on YouTube yet.

“We’re gonna keep playing it at the tour until the seventh city. So the first six cities are going to be TPoT 24, and the last two cities are going to be TPoT 25,” he said. “What we’re showing is going to be an opening scene from that episode, where we’re gonna see a twist on a familiar character with a voice that you haven’t seen before. So it might get people wondering what’s going on that this character and why they don’t sound like how we remembered.”

Stay tuned to The Beat for more news from SDCC ’26.
