Despite its continued interest in supporting the original Nintendo Switch, Nightdive Studios is finding it “harder and harder” to do so.
Over the years, the company has put out a ton of great remasters for the console. Since then we’ve seen the likes of Doom 64, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster, and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster – just to name a few.
The thinking here makes sense. Nintendo Switch is almost a decade old at this point and the hardware is aging. Right now, Nintendo Switch 2 is the focus.
Grover Wimberly IV, project manager and producer/director, said in a recent interview with Nintendo Everything:
“With Switch 1 – and I say this with all respect to Nintendo players – Switch 1 is getting harder and harder as it’s an old console. But as long as we’re able to, we will do our best to try to support Switch 1.
With Switch 2, it has more horsepower, so you have smoother frame rates, clearer textures, faster loading times, and the Switch 2 mouse support. And for players that are wanting to make that upgrade from Switch 1 to Switch 2 versions of the game, they don’t have to make a separate purchase or their save data won’t be wiped or anything like that. So yeah, if you have Switch 1, we’re doing our best to make use of that. We want to make sure that our game is still playable on Switch 1, but the best experience will be on Switch 2.”
The next remaster coming from Nightdive is Sin: Reloaded, which will be on Nintendo Switch along with Switch 2. We have details about what to expect in terms of improvements here.
