The Lincoln Lawyermight be getting its own spinoff series.
Netflix announced in May that its <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/netflix-lincoln-lawyer-final-season-5-b2983752.html” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>beloved legal drama starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will come to an endwith its fifth season, but a new report by Deadline says that the show has a spinoff in the worksrevolving around the lead character’s half-sister.
Based on the novels by Michael Connelly, The Lincoln Lawyer centers Garcia-Rulfo’s character, Mickey Haller, who works as an attorney out of the back of his Lincoln sedan.
Season four, released in February, ended on a cliffhanger when Mickey is introduced to his long-lost half-sister, Artemisia “Emi” Finch, who is played by veteran TV actor Cobie Smulders.
Smulders, 44, is known for playing SHIELD agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, starting with the 2012 film The Avengers through theTV miniseriesSecret Invasionin 2023. She also <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/how-i-met-your-mother-ending-cobie-smulders-final-episode-a9502786.html” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>starred on the CBS sitcomHow I Met Your Motherand in the Netflix comedy Friends from College.

Deadlinereported this week that the idea for a Lincoln Lawyerspinoff led by Smulders was being tossed around even before Netflix announced the show’s cancelation.
A representative for Netflix declined to comment when approached by The Independent.
The new show’s script is reportedly being written by the original show’s executive producers Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman, with A+E Studios producing.
Smulders is already set be a regular cast member on season five of The Lincoln Lawyerafter her character Emi — an original character who was not in Connelly’s books — asked Mickey for help in freeing a wrongfully convicted woman.

Co-showrunners Humphrey and Rodriguez teased the possibility of a spin-off in their statement announcing the show’s cancelationin May by mentioning the chance to “chart a new course for some of our characters into the future.”
“All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us. From the very beginning, the mission was always not only to tell the story of Mickey Haller and his compatriots, but also to give that story a proper conclusion. And while it is, of course, bittersweet, it’s also an amazing opportunity to bring this adventure to a close and perhaps chart a new course for some of our characters into the future,” Humphrey and Rodriguez said.
“We promise you, we are right now building a final season that will provide the satisfying finale Mickey Haller deserves. We can’t wait to share it with you!”
Filming for the fifth season officially wrapped in early July. A release date has not been announced.
