Ranbir Kapoor attended the grand Ramayana: Pratham Sankalp event in New Delhi on Friday, but it was his appearance in dark sunglasses that caught everyone’s attention. Addressing the speculation right at the start of the event, the actor apologised to the audience and revealed that he was suffering from an eye infection, requesting everyone not to misunderstand his choice of eyewear.
Ranbir Kapoor apologises for wearing shades
Greeting the audience with a loud chant of “Jai Shri Ram,” Ranbirbegan his speech by explaining the reason behind the sunglasses. “Namaste. I want to inform you all that I apologize for wearing these dark glasses. Meri aankhon mein infection hua hai. Lekin iss shubh avasar par mere dil mein sirf affection hai! So, please don’t mind,” he said, drawing applause and smiles from those present.
Reports had earlier stated that the actor had contracted conjunctivitis and would be attending the event wearing black sunglasses as a precaution. Despite the infection, Ranbir chose not to skip the launch, making his appearance alongside the cast and crew of the much-awaited mythological epic.
After addressing his health, Ranbir paid an emotional tribute to veteran actor Arun Govil, who immortalised Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic television series. Looking towards Govil in the audience, Ranbir said, “First, I want to speak to Arun ji.” As Govil stood up, Ranbir requested him to remain seated and praised his unforgettable portrayal of the deity.
“You have fulfilled this responsibility with such beauty, sincerity and dignity for so many years. Anyone who has watched Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan has been deeply inspired by you. If I can portray Shri Ram even a little as you did, I would feel that my hard work has paid off,” Ranbir said, earning loud cheers from the audience.
