Sony Pictures Networks India is expanding its original content play in the Bengali entertainment market, with Raandhuni Na Kaanduni marking Sony AATH’s entry into original unscripted entertainment. The comedy cooking show will premiere on October 3 at 9.30 pm on Sony AATH and Sony LIV.
Hosted by Bengali actor Ankush Hazra, the show combines food, humour and celebrity entertainment, placing familiar personalities in a kitchen environment driven by cooking challenges, conversations and unscripted situations. The broadcaster unveiled the property in Kolkata through an experiential Kitchen Takeover featuring the cast, media and content creators.
The launch forms part of Sony AATH’s broader programming push across original unscripted entertainment, fiction and other formats as it looks to strengthen its offering for Bengali audiences.
“Raandhuni Na Kaanduni marks an important step in Sony AATH’s journey as we expand our content proposition with original unscripted entertainment, fiction and much more,” said Ambesh Tiwari, Business Head, Sony YAY! and Sony AATH.
“Food and humour are both deeply rooted in Bengali culture and bringing them together with some of Bengal’s most familiar personalities gives us an opportunity to create a differentiated, locally relevant IP. The format complements our existing entertainment offerings while giving audiences a new way to engage with Sony AATH,” Tiwari added.
Unlike a conventional cooking competition where culinary ability drives the narrative, Raandhuni Na Kaanduni uses cooking as the backdrop for entertainment. Challenges are designed to generate humour, conversations, celebrity chemistry and unexpected moments.
The ensemble includes Kanchan Mullick, Sreemoyee Chattoraj, Iman Chakraborty, Rupanjana Mitra, Darshana Banik, Prerna Das, Ushasi Ray, Sushmit Mukherjee, RJ Sayan Ghosh, Anwesha Hazra and Soumitrisha Kundu. Chefs Doma Wong and Priyam bring culinary expertise to the format.
“The moment I heard the concept, I knew Raandhuni Na Kaanduni was something very different. It brings together people who audiences already know and love, but puts them in a completely unfamiliar setting where anything can happen,” Hazra said.
“With such a diverse ensemble cast, there can never be a dull moment. Everyone brings their own personality, humour and energy to the kitchen, which makes my job as a host even more exciting,” he added.
Built around the idea of the ‘raandhunis’ meeting the ‘kaandunis’, the show carries the Bengali proposition ‘হাসির আঁচে জমবে রান্না’.
For Sony AATH, the property signals a wider attempt to build original programming around Bengali cultural cues, local talent and audience preferences, rather than simply introducing new genres. Raandhuni Na Kaanduni premieres October 3 on Sony AATH and Sony LIV.
