PS5 emulator can now run the console version of GTA V at up to 60 FPS on PC

The PlayStation 5 emulation scene is advancing at an astonishing rate, with the KytyPS5 emulator now successfully running the console version of GTA 5 on PC at up to 60 FPS, well, at least for a few minutes.

A recent video demonstration, shared on X by user BrutalSam, showcases the impressive milestone in action. The footage highlights the game’s opening North Yankton prologue mission running smoothly, with performance fluctuating between 40 and 60 FPS depending on the amount of on-screen action. Hitting these speeds naturally required serious processing power, relying on a high-end PC equipped with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor paired with a Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card.

Despite the solid framerates, the current build remains highly unstable, reliably crashing right before the first major police shootout in the prologue. Some modders managed to bypass the opening mission to test the vast open world, where performance initially plummeted below 15 FPS before recovering to the mid-40s during real-time engine cutscenes.

While the game inevitably crashed as soon as the cinematic ended, rendering the PS5 version of the title in real-time on PC remains an impressive technical feat. This rapid advancement is not limited to Rockstar’s blockbuster, as at least four other PS5 titles, like Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered and Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, have already been shown running at a stable 60 FPS on KytyPS5.

The community’s intense dedication to optimizing PS5 emulation appears closely tied to Rockstar’s upcoming release schedule. With GTA 6 slated to launch exclusively on current-generation consoles, PC players are clearly hoping the emulation scene can provide an unofficial workaround to play the game without waiting for a native PC port.

The development team’s progress has been staggering; just a month ago, the emulator struggled to get past the initial splash screen and main menus. Pushing a complex 3D title into playable framerates in such a short window marks a massive leap forward for the project.
