Acer Predator Atlas 8 arrives with a premium price to match its specs

The latest generation of Windows gaming handhelds continues to push integrated graphics to new heights, but those gains are arriving alongside increasingly premium price tags. AMD’s Ryzen Z2 and Z2 Extreme APUs have already raised expectations for portable gaming, and Intel is now aiming to move the goalposts again with its Panther Lake platform. Early performance figures suggest the flagship Arc G3 Extreme processor, powered by the integrated Arc B390 GPU, is capable of running many games at 1080p and 60 FPS using High graphics settings.

Unfortunately, ongoing increases in the cost of key components have made these devices considerably more expensive than previous generations. Acer’s upcoming Predator Atlas 8 is one of the clearest examples yet.

Although the handheld is still expected to launch between September and December, Acer has already opened interest registration on its UK website while revealing pricing for all available models. The entry-level Predator Atlas 8 starts at £999.99 (around $1,300 / €1,120) and pairs Intel’s standard Arc G3 processor with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 512GB SSD.

Those wanting the faster Arc G3 Extreme chip will have to pay considerably more. The Predator Atlas 8 Extreme starts at £1,299.99 (around $1,700 / €1,470), adding the more powerful processor alongside 24GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. Acer isn’t alone in setting high prices, as MSI’s Claw 8 EX AI+ also uses the same processor and carries a similarly premium launch price.

All four Atlas 8 configurations share the same hardware outside of their processor, memory, and storage options. Every model features an 8-inch 1920 × 1200 display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Variable Refresh Rate support, up to 500 nits of brightness, and 10-point touch input. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with a low-reflection coating.

Other gaming-focused features include Hall-effect triggers, full-size analog sticks, rear macro buttons, Acer’s AeroBlade cooling system, Windows 11 Home, and Intel XeSS support for compatible games.

Acer is also including a Corning Gorilla Glass screen protector and two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with all pre-orders. While a general pre-order date has yet to be announced, priority registration is already available through Acer’s UK store. The Predator Atlas 8 is expected to begin rolling out across the UK, Europe, North America, Australia, the Middle East, and Africa starting in October.
