PlayStation Plus subscribers will lose access to seven free games this September, including a beloved PS1 classic.

Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service is packed full of games of all genres from different console generations, especially if you pay for the upper Premium tier. This tier in particular includes a plethora of retro classics from the PS1, PS2 and PSP, as well as a curation of free movies, cloud streaming, trials and more.

However, the upper two tiers (the other being Extra) lose games on a rotational basis to make way for something new. Typically, games can stay on PS Plus Extra and Premium for six to 12 months, sometimes a little longer. As such, seven games are about to leave Extra and Premium next month, including the beloved PS1 title in question.

It’s time to play Toy Story 2 for free before it’s too late

As brought to our attention by Redditor Such_Jellyfish5261, amongst the seven games leaving PS Plus next month is Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue (PS Plus Premium), which was released on the original PlayStation in 1999.

The image shared in the Reddit post is taken from the US PlayStation Store, but it is also a reflection of the store in the UK.

“Why are they taking away Buzz?” exclaimed EmberOnMain in response. However, there is a good reason why that, as well as its sequel, is leaving PS Plus in September. That’s because we’re getting Disney/Pixar Toy Story: Retro Roundup! on Tuesday, September 15.

This collection of Disney Pixar goodness includes the four classic Toy Story games, as well as A Bug’s Life, gloriously remastered for modern consoles.

During a time when movie tie-in video game quality was pretty much rock bottom, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue was one of the best during that time, as reflected by its Metacritic user score of 7.2.

Sure, that score feels low, but for a game of that type during that time, it might as well have scored in the mid-to-high 80s. Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue also garnered somewhat of a loyal cult following over the years.

The other six games leaving PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in September 2026 include:

    • EA Sports Madden NFL 26 (PS Plus Extra/Premium)
    • Persona 5 Tactica (PS Plus Extra/Premium)
    • Shadowrun Returns (PS Plus Extra/Premium)
    • Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut (PS Plus Extra/Premium)
    • Shadowrun: Hong Kong – Extended Edition (PS Plus Extra/Premium)
    • Toy Story 3 (PS Plus Premium)

When are these games leaving PlayStation Plus?

All of the above seven games will no longer be available on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. On that day, the next batch of titles will be available in the catalogue. This also just so happens to be the release date for the aforementioned Disney/Pixar Toy Story: Retro Roundup!.

That all being said, if you have played any of the above games and later buy them outright once they’ve left PlayStation Plus, all your data will carry over, including save progress and unlocked trophies. Hopefully, should that happen, they may even be included in the latest PS Store sale.
