The gaming experts have spoken, and the latest free game to hit PlayStation Plus seems to be a certified banger and ripe for Game of the Year considerations.

Big Walk, the latest game from Untitled Goose Game creators House House, was announced to be coming on Day 1 to PlayStation Plus Essential earlier this year.

Building up some pre-release buzz thanks to the positive clout House House earned for its success with its previous title, Big Walk’s reviews have given the game the green light to sweep up awards later this year.

Looking at Metacritic, the PC version of Big Walk has an average score of 93, while the PlayStation 5 version received 86. With that said, there are a lot of reviews which have awarded the game full marks, with plenty of 10s and 100s across a variety of reviews.

Eurogamer’s five-star review callsBig Walk “a funny, exciting, and deeply rewarding multiplayer adventure that combines knockabout fun with some surprisingly big ideas.”

GameSpot’s 9/10 review calls it “one of the best co-op games ever”, adding that it “takes fundamental and timeless video game concepts–obstacles and incentives for clearing them–and, through an intensely focused co-op experience, shapes them into something singularly rewarding, supremely mysterious, and totally unforgettable.”

Meanwhile, Restart has also given the game top marks, saying that “I think what Big Walk does that’s so compelling is that it grabs the little part of your brain that is begging to be enriched by curiosity and interaction and massages it ever so gently with your friends as the background. That is not something that you can simply drop people into and hope happens, it is meticulously crafted and planned by expert hands.”

    What is Big Walk about?

Big Walk is a cooperative game that can be played with as few as two people, and as many as 12 players.

Its main focus is on teamwork and communication, featuring a proximity voice chat system which makes voices fade across distances the further away from other players you get.

As you set out with your friends through a wide-open world full of challenges, puzzles, and discoveries, you will need to work together to find your way around. Stay in touch using walkie-talkies and other devices, and figure out new ways to talk to each other when you suddenly become speechless.

Big Walk allows you to play at your own pace with your friends, so there’s no pressure to complete anything really quickly or finish a certain puzzle within a set amount of time. If you want to, you can simply kick back and watch the sunset.

With full crossplay support, Big Walk is available to play across each system: PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.

It joins PlayStation Plus Essential this month, along with Dying Light 2 and Signalis, making for a pretty decent month overall in terms of what you can play. The games available for this month will be available until August 31.
