A Demon’s Souls PC Remaster overhaul mod is in the works

Despite being an iconic game which gave rise to the Soulslike phenomenon, the original Demon’s Souls was never released from its PlayStation 3 prison, much like the remake developed by Bluepoint Games likely won’t from its PlayStation 5 prison. However, thanks to the RPCS3 emulator, the game is fully playable on PC, and soon enough, fans will be able to enjoy the now-classic action RPG developed by FromSoftware with significant visual improvements from the PC Remaster mod

Developed by fromsoftserve, the developer behind the stunning BloodborneRemaster Project, this visual overhaul”modifies the game’s models to now react to lightdering to use cubemaps,” adds “normal and specular for most surfaces,” and “tweaks player and object shadows to blend properly with the baked shadows.”

As development is still in its early phases, fromsoftserve only released a demo for the Demon’s SoulsPC Remaster overhaul on Nexus Mods featuring the two tutorial levels. Looking at the comparison images, however, it’s clear how this overhaul, once complete, will become the best way to experience the game on PC (until the Demon’s Souls remake is properly emulated by emulators like SharpEmu)

Demon’s Souls remains one of the best games developed by FromSoftware, so if you plan to experience it for the first time with the Remaster overhaul, you’re in for a very good time. Although the game lacks many of the improvements introduced in the Dark Souls games and isn’t particularly challenging compared to the games that came after it, it remains unmatched in the design of some of its areas. The Tower of Latria and the Shrine of Storms, for example, are among the game’s locations that get etched into memory in ways that locations from other Souls games don’t.
