Tenn. (WBBJ) – Peabody High School students got a powerful lesson in safe driving Thursday morning
The Tennessee Highway Safety Office brought in the “Arrive Alive” tour, a high-tech virtual reality simulator that lets teens experience distracted, drunk or drugged driving without ever leaving campus.
Organizers say it’s a critical message: Tennessee had more than 152,000 crashes in 2024, and drivers ages 16 to 25 were involved in nearly half of them. Teens are also tied to more than 14% of distracted driving crashes statewide.
“You know these accidents are happening every day all over the country, and we try to target them around this age when they’re gonna be headed off to college soon and probably have some freedom that they may not [be] used to having,” said Jalen Buress, event technician.
Thursday’s hands-on demo at Peabody High aims to turn those numbers around by building lifelong safe driving habits.
