In 2026, all four of the Major League Baseball Wild Card series will be broadcast on NBC, Peacock, or the NBC Sports Network (NBCSN). Sunday afternoon’s games will determine the last few matchups but we do know the Padres and Cubs will stage the only series taking place west of the Central Time Zone, so they’ll have the final first pitch of the day.

Thursday’s game is the one that might be changing and it’s a bit complicated. If either the Padres or Cubs win the first two games, there will be no 3rd game. If they split the first two games and at least two of the other series end in sweeps, Game 3 at Petco Park will move to a 5:00 p.m. start on NBC 7.

The Cubs and Padres will be meeting for the third time in the postseason. San Diego beat Chicago in the 1984 NLCS to reach their first World Series. The second meeting is a bit more fresh in the memory. The Friars lost in a tight three-game Wild Card series at Wrigley Field last year, with the Cubbies outscoring the Padres by a total of one run over the three games. Getting the rematch in America’s Finest City is not an insignificant development.
The Padres have turned Petco Park into a fortress. They’re one of just five teams in the league to win at least 50 games at home this year and the atmosphere the Friar Faithful have created is a huge reason why. The Friars are third in the league in average attendance behind on the Dodger and Yankees, who both play in ballparks with larger capacities.
