What we know so far: The open-ting gamers run PlayStation 5 games natively on Windows and Linux PCs. Hosted on GitHub, the project now reports 100% GPU shader instruction coverage, with all 1,166 tracked AMD RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 instructions implemented, thanks to contributions from more than 100 (human) developers alongside AI-generated code

AnyPS5 has successfully decoded the GPU instruction set used by the PS5’s “Oberon” SoC, which pairs an 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU with a custom RDNA 2 GPU. The developers note, however, that only instructions recognized by the decoder were counted, while decoded opcodes absent from AMD’s public list were not.

It’s also worth noting that the system libraries aren’t fully translated yet, with the latest data showing 3,052 of 3,535 functions, or 86.34%, implemented. The developers clarified that the list only covers functions already declared in the project’s core/libs/prx directory and doesn’t account for every function exported by the PS5 firmware..

For those unfamiliar, AnyPS5 is a compatibility layer that lets PS5 binaries run natively on PC by converting executables built for the PlayStation 5 into formats Windows or Linux can read, much like Wine or Proton. It works by translating the PS5’s proprietary API calls, such as those for graphics, audio, or user services, into native calls on Windows and Linux.

The project’s founder, who goes by the online handle boykopovar, explained that AnyPS5’s core/libs/prx directory covers only low-level system libraries, such as libSceAgc, that interact directly with the hardware or the operating system kernel. It does not bundle engine-level middleware, modules shipped separately with games, or SDK libraries that merely wrap other system libraries.

While full support for the entire PS5 library is still some way off, at least one PS5 game, the 2D platformer Dreaming Sarah, has been shown running at a stable 60 FPS on PC through AnyPS5. It’s a relatively lightweight title that requires very little CPU or GPU power, but the developers believe they’ll be able to add support for more demanding games soon.
