TOKYO: The Grand Line is getting a new route to the big screen. Toei Animation and Eiichiro Oda have announced two new theatrical films, One Piece Film: God Valley and One Piece Film: Baad, giving the global anime phenomenon a two-film roadmap stretching into 2029.

The announcement was made at One Piece Day ’26 and marks the first new theatrical release commitment for the franchise since One Piece Film: Red.

One Piece Film: God Valley is scheduled for summer 2027, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the One Piece manga, which debuted in July 1997.

The title immediately connects the film to one of the biggest mysteries in the franchise’s history: the God Valley Incident.

Set 38 years before the beginning of Luffy’s journey, the incident involved Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp joining forces against the Rocks Pirates, led by Rocks D. Xebec. The crew also included younger versions of characters who would later become legendary figures, including Kaido, Big Mom and Whitebeard.

The event has remained one of the most significant pieces of One Piece history, making its apparent move to the big screen particularly notable.

The God Valley project could also represent a shift in the way One Piece uses theatrical releases.

Historically, the franchise’s films have largely told standalone stories outside the main continuity, although movies such as Strong World, Film: Z and Film: Red have incorporated important characters, concepts and lore from the wider series.

That also gives Toei Animation an opportunity to give the highly anticipated historical conflict feature-film treatment, with a longer runtime and theatrical-scale animation.

The second project, One Piece Film: Baad, is scheduled for 2029, aligning with the 30th anniversary of the One Piece television anime, which first aired in October 1999.

Details about the story remain tightly under wraps. Oda has, however, personally hand-drawn the official title logo for Baad.

The lack of information has left plenty of room for speculation, particularly as the main One Piece story moves deeper into its final saga.

The release schedule gives the franchise a clear theatrical timeline.

God Valley will arrive during the manga’s 30th anniversary celebrations in 2027, while Baad will follow in 2029 as the anime reaches its own 30-year milestone.

The projects are being produced by Oda, Shueisha, Fuji TV and Toei Animation.

No directors, screenwriters or voice cast members have yet been announced for either film, and international release dates outside Japan have also not been confirmed.

The strategy puts One Piece on a long theatrical runway, with its most mysterious historical events potentially becoming major cinema attractions. For fans, the biggest question may no longer be whether the God Valley Incident will finally get its moment, but just how much of its legendary story will make it to the big screen.
