Toei Animation made a couple of major announcements on the One Piece Day 2026 live stream. There are two new films in the making, and they are the first releases associated with the franchise since 2022. This event took place in Tokyo and gave the fans a sneak peek at the new movies, along with much other news related to the anime and manga series.
The first movie, named One Piece Film God Valley, will premiere in Japanese cinemas in the summer of 2027. The movie will be about the God Valley Incident, which has been mentioned in the manga many times and is currently unfolding in the Elbaph arc. Another movie will be One Piece Film Baad, which will be released in 2029, but there are no further details about it provided to the audience.
What Is the God Valley Incident?

God Valley is considered to be one of the most important backstories in One Piece. It refers to what happened 38 years earlier on an island that became submerged under the ocean. The battle was fought between the Rocks Pirates, Roger Pirates, the Marines, and the elusive World Nobles.
The battle ended with the defeat of Rocks D. Xebec and shifted the power in the world according to the storyline. The implications of this incident still translate into the current storyline, which is one of the reasons readers have been waiting for the story for such a long time.
First Look at the Announcement
The reveal happened at the end of the live video stream, followed by a brief clip featuring three important people in the story. The video featured Gol D. Roger and Garp teaming up against Rocks during the incident, suggesting how the movie will adapt the main conflict.
Toei has yet to reveal all the details about the production, but the trailer proves that filming has started with new animations and no reuse of old materials. The movie will be the 15th in total.
One Piece Film Red Set the Bar
The last entry,One Piece Film Red, came out in August 2022 and became the highest-grossing entry in the movie franchise history. It scored around ¥2.25 billion in Japan, with 1.57 million making it for its opening weekend; those figures far exceeded any other Japanese film released that year.
This success is most probably one of the factors that made Toei greenlight not only one but two new films. God Valley and Baadhave been confirmed, which means that there is a long-term movie plan for the franchise.
Other One Piece Day Announcements
One Piece Day 2026 has had several noteworthy announcements and developments. First, the results of the second global popularity poll were revealed, with Monkey D. Luffy emerging at the top, followed by Zoro and Sanji. Creator Eiichiro Oda is reportedly working on a piece of artwork depicting the top-ranking characters in “Special Outfits,” which will be released in the anime and other merchandise.
Furthermore, the live-action Netflix series was also in the news. Four new cast members were added for season 3, which adapts the plot from the Alabasta arc, completing the casting process.
On the anime front, the Elbaph arc started airing in April 2026 after being idle for three months. The animation studio Toei announced that they will produce only 26 episodes per year from now on to align the animation with the manga’s pace. This appears to be part of wider efforts to improve the adaptation of the story on TV while the franchise is evolving in films.
God Valley will be released in 2027, and Baad in 2029, so the long-term series will provide the audience with one of the most awaited stories and is still growing in all the possible formats, including anime, films, and live-action.
