The editorial department of Monthly Shonen Gangan announced her death on its official website and official X account on August 12.

On its official website, the editorial department announced that manga artist Yoko Umezu had passed away on July 7, 2026, due to a cerebral infarction.

The statement said that her sudden passing was likely something Umezu herself never expected and described the loss as an extremely sad event for her family, the editorial department, and everyone who had been involved with her. It also formally informed readers who had supported her work during her lifetime of her passing.

The editorial department continued by expressing its deep respect and gratitude for Umezu’s career as a manga artist and offering its heartfelt prayers for her peace.

Vermeil in Gold Manga Serialization Ends

Regarding the future of her ongoing work, the editorial department also announced that Umezu’s funeral had already been held privately with family members and close relatives in attendance.

It further stated that Vermeil in Gold, which Umezu had been serializing in Monthly Shonen Gangan, would conclude with the chapter published in the magazine’s July issue, released on June 12, 2026.

The editorial department added that information concerning future plans, including the publication of chapters not yet collected in tankobon volumes, will be announced once details have been decided through Monthly Shonen Gangan and its official website.

The manga is Square Enix released Volume 11 in Japan in June 2026
