NVIDIA DLSS 5 In Mario Kart World Shows A Glimpse Of The Future, As Nintendo Switch 2 Emulated Game Looks Almost Like An Animated Movie

NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering makes Mario Kart World look almost like an animated movie

A little over a year after its release, the <a href="https://comicvibe.com/pikmin-4-nintendo-switch-2-edition-demo-released-save-data-transfer-supported/" title="'Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' Demo Released… Save Data Transfer Supported”>Nintendo Switch 2 was jailbroken last month, opening the floodgates not only for homebrew on the system, but also to game dumping, which, in turn, opened the way for Nintendo Switch 2 emulation on PC. Running games on PC at higher resolution, however, is never enough in the PC gaming space, and a rather interesting look at what could be the future of Nintendo games has arrived thanks to emulation and NVIDIA DLSS 5Neural Rendering.

In a new video shared online a few hours ago, ChillyWillMD showed Mario Kart World running on PC with NVIDIA DLSS 5neural rendering. While seeing the game run at 60 FPS on PC only a few days after Nintendo Switch 2 emulation became a thing on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 Ti would be impressive enough (although emulation relies more on CPU horsepower, which the Intel Core i9-13900K provides in spades), it’s how Neural Rendering handles the game’s visuals that makes the showcase truly impressive.

Although there’s a lot of room for improvement, as Nintendo‘s weird aversion to anti-aliasing delivers some jagged visuals, especially in character models, and light from the kart’s headlights looks very noisy, there’s no denying that the lighting changes that NVIDIA DLSS 5 brings make the game look almost as if the gameplay belonged to a sequence from one of the Super Mario movies, and not from a Nintendo Switch 2 launch game. So far, we haven’t seen too many examples of NVIDIA DLSS 5 neural rendering working well on games with stylized visuals, so Mario Kart World stands as a great example of what could be achieved in the future.

Compared to other emulated games running with NVIDIA DLSS 5neural rendering, Mario Kart World stands as a more realistic glimpse into the future for a very simple reason. The Nintendo Switch systems are the only modern gaming consoles powered by NVIDIA, and with the Nintendo Switch 2 being the only system supporting a lightweight version of NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution, it stands to reason that a potential third system in the Nintendo Switch family could support the remaining NVIDIA DLSS technology, such as Frame Generation and Neural Rendering. While Nintendo seems a little averse to taking advantage of NVIDIA‘s tech, allowing third-party developers to use it would further set the future system apart from the competition.
