NOVI, Mich.– Animal lovers looking for something to do this weekend won’t have to look far. The Novi Pet Expo is underway at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace, running alongside the Novi Home Show, and it’s bringing everything from adoptable dogs and colorful birds to — yes — snakes.

Nick Brown, who traveled from Troy to attend, said the event offers something for everyone.

“You don’t know what you don’t know, so you’ll come out here and you’ll find different events. We have our stage dogs come out like Rock and Roll K9’s. You have dog trainers out here,” Brown said.

What can you find at the vendor booths?

The expo isn’t just about the animals. Vendors and small business owners have also made the event a destination for unique, pet-focused finds.

“A lot of small businesses and crafters are here, and these are small businesses, people like you and me, maybe they have a day job and on the weekend they’re making pet beds or crafty items. Leashes and collars,” said Eric Udler of Luring 101.

Udler added that the event is also one of the few places where pet owners can bring their animals along for the outing.

“You can’t take your pet to the mall, right? This is an opportunity to bring your pet, wife, kids. It’s a family event,” Udler said.

What makes the entertainment worth sticking around for?

Visitors may also walk away with a few fun facts. Dave Carol, president of Rainbow Feathers Bird Club, noted that some parrots can live as long as — or even longer than — humans.

“We’ve got some birds that are going to outlive me,” Carol said.

The live entertainment is also a crowd-pleaser. Jill Mondrush, owner and member of Rock N Roll K9’s, said any dog has what it takes to perform.

“We have dogs of all sizes, all shapes and all colors. Any dog can do this. It’s a lot of work, absolutely, to train these guys, but it’s a lot of fun too. It’s a great way to bond with your dog,” Mondrush said.
