Erin Foster is responding to Adam Brody‘s remarks about Palestine.
The Nobody Wants Thiscreator discusses Brody’s GQ interview calling for a free Palestine in an exclusive clip from the upcoming Oct. 27 episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, hosted byAmanda Hirsch.
“You know, it’s complicated,” Foster begins after Hirsch asks how she feels about Brody’s interview criticizing Israel’s violence in Gaza. “I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing.”
Foster, who converted to Judaism before marrying music executive Simon Tikhman, says she does not share Brody’s beliefs. “While I love Adam, I also disagree with him,” she says. “And that’s okay.”
The executive producer explains that Nobody Wants This, which was partially inspired by her conversion process, is intended as a positive representation of Judaism.

“I think that as the creator of the show, all I can say is that I want our Jewish fans to know that I see you and I hear you and I understand how you feel. And the show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism,” Foster says. “That is why I made this show. It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person, and sitting here right now at this time in the world where there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that.”
However, Foster doesn’t oppose disagreement. “That being said, everyone is entitled to a different opinion than me,” she says. “I can just tell you what I created this show for, what the intention of the show is.”
Brody made headlines after publicizing his thoughts on Palestine in a recent interview with GQ. “I have spoken a lot about it privately. I haven’t spoken much about it publicly,” he said. “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine.”
He added, “It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago. I’m hopeful that another administration can really do some good and correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.”

Brody also explained his approach to publicly discussing political matters. “I just answer the questions I’m asked,” he said. “I’m not wearing a pin, so I’m not inviting a certain question, and perhaps I should. I really admire people who do. But 99 percent of what I’m asked about is about the show. I’m not trying to plead ignorance — here we are doing a political interview, so it makes sense that we wade into this territory — but I’ve never ducked a question, really, not a political question anyway.”
