The Nintendo Switch 2 is already exceeding expectations in Dragon’s Dogma 2, running at higher than 30 FPS months before launch

CAPCOM is among the third-party publishers that is supporting the Nintendo Switch 2 the best, delivering incredible ports of games such as Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil Requiem, PRAGMATA and Devil May Cry 5. Although the base game is remembered alongside Monster Hunter Wilds as one of the games powered by the RE Engine with the worst performance, Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen is already exceeding expectations on the system, running at 30 FPS and higher in its current state, which bodes incredibly well for the game ahead of its release on October 9.

“We’ve been working not only to improve performance to let the game run on Switch 2, but to improve the current base game versions on other platforms, too,” said producer Naoto Oyama to Eurogamer. “In particular, we’ve been trying to find as many small tweaks as we can make so we can build up and have a big performance improvement on consoles when it comes to Performance Mode itself. That’s something we’re aiming for with the late August title update that’s in the roadmap; for Performance Mode on consoles will be able to reach 60 frames a second.”

“That means that, commensurately, all that effort we’ve put into the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game also pays off in the Switch 2 version, and we’re currently seeing a minimum 30 frames per second rate performance on that hardware (and, in many scenes, it’s even higher!) So it’s a little while to go until the game releases, but it’s exceeding our expectations on Switch 2, and I hope the players agree that we’ve done a great job again with bringing this game to that platform,”Oyama-san concluded, painting a very exciting picture for all the console versions of the game.

Looking at how Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance has been improved following its launch with significant optimization improvements, there’s plenty of reason to believe that the launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2 Dark Arisen will mark a sort of new beginning for the second entry in the series. With the expansion delivering 25 hours of additional content and all sorts of gameplay improvements, CAPCOM hopes to win back disappointed fans, much like it did with Monster Hunter Wilds even before the announcement of the Ascendance expansion.
