We know that by the end of March 2026, the Switch 2 had sold 23.68 million units worldwide. That pace has it ahead of where the Switch was at when launch aligned, showing just how much of a liking consumers have taken to the platform. There’s also been an insane amount of big-name games launched, with even more to come before the year closes out. There’s been so many titles released already, but according to Nintendo’s president, we’re just getting started.
During a Variety Entertainment & Technology Summit panel, Nintendo of America’s President and COO Devon Pritchard spoke about where Nintendo is at with the Switch 2 right now. While there have certainly been plenty of heavy hitters already, it seems fans should get even more pumped for what’s to come.
“We’re at the beginning of Nintendo Switch 2. This is just beginning and we’ve already had some really wonderful experiences, both ours and third party come to the table and I can’t wait to see what the system is going to do and what our talented developers will bring to the table.”
While Switch 2 is doing incredibly well, the platform has plenty of competition not just in the gaming space, but the entertainment space. There are so many things out there that vie for the attention of consumers and Nintendo knows that, but Nintendo remains squarely focused on building games that are fun, which will in turn build long-lasting relationships with consumers
“There are more channels for content than ever before. Content is available 24/7. So I think you hear a lot of times, people saying, we are competing for consumers’ time and I think what’s unique is that Nintendo is focused instead on building experiences that create relationships that last generations and I think that’s a different kind of focus for us. But that really is where we put our time and our energy is, how do we create those fun experiences? And that becomes the test: is something fun? It sounds simple, of course it’s not.”
