The Purge fans have received a positive update about an upcoming entry in the horror franchise. As the fan-favorite The Purge expands, the latest news confirms the plot will explore entirely new places.
According to an exclusive report by <a href="https://comicvibe.com/kakao-entertainment-ceo-says-fandom-underpins-k/” title=”Kakao Entertainment CEO Says Fandom Underpins K”>Entertainment Weekly, as part of a new deal between Blumhouse and IDW Dark, several classic Hollywood movies will become comic books. The report also says their latest slate includes M3GAN, Happy Death Day, and The Purge.
Speaking about the comic book version of The Purge, IDW Dark lead editor Heather Antos stated, “What we’re doing is an entirely new place and a new town, new environment than we’ve gotten to see explored in the Purge universe so far.”
However, despite the tease, nothing about the plot has been confirmed yet. Thus, fans will have to wait until IDW Dark drops its official art for the comic books.
The Purge expands into comics with a new setting and unexplored corners of the horror franchise
IDW Dark lead editor Heather Antos shared that, while creating the Purge comic, the filmmakers wanted to ensure the story’s moral message remained clear. He said, “They are the bad guys, and they need to remain the bad guys in the story.”
Antos and Dan wanted to explore different kinds of people who participate in Purge Night, including their personalities and backgrounds.
The Purge comic writer Dan Watters believes comics offer a better way to show what characters think and feel internally. Compared to movies or shows, he feels that comics can delve into the character’s internal thoughts and personality through writing.
Talking about Purge Night, Watters added, “It’s something that is affecting everyone in the country at the same time, one night a year. There’s so many things to deal with, so many things you have to do.”
