Well, as per usual, the leaks were largely on point and the new LEGO PlayStation is now official. During today’s PS5 State of Play game showcase, we got our first official look, details, and an official trailer for the upcoming LEGO PlayStation 1 console build.
LEGO and Sony Interactive Entertainment have come together to celebrate the iconic console that started it all – the original PlayStation®, first introduced to the world in Japan 1994.
The build includes the original PlayStation controller, a functional disc lid (you know one of those things you’ll never need again because PlayStation won’t make discs anymore soon), and a pair of “stunning dioramas celebrating Gran Turismo and Ape Escape hidden inside the console.” PlayStation says both are “packed with easter eggs for true fans to discover.”
Each diorama features customizable elements – Gran Turismo includes a miniature track complete with scaled down cars, while the Ape Escapediorama has a nostalgic island scene with a swappable blue or red light on the monkey’s helmet. The interactive set has functional mechanisms for the console’s Power and Open buttons, a controller that can plug into the console, and the ability to remove both game dioramas so they can be displayed separately.
The 1,911-piece set represents a “near 1:1 scale of the console, measuring 10.5 inches / 26 cm wide when fully assembled.“
It goes up for pre-order at $179.99 on October 10 – LEGO Insider Early Access on this set starts 10/1-10/3
