Netflix is continuing to beef up its licensed anime library, and we’ve just learned that the hit sci-fi mecha series Snowball Earth will be dropping on Netflix in the United States, Canada, and select other regions on October 4th, 2026.

Based on the acclaimed manga by Yuhiro Tsujitsugu (published in English by VIZ Media), Snowball Earth was one of the standout anime premieres of the Spring 2026 season. The television adaptation was brought to life by the talented team at Studio KAI, and after its initial broadcast earlier this year, it’s finally making its way to Netflix audiences. TOHO Animation is in charge of the distribution with Crunchyroll having premiered the series back in April.

    What is Snowball Earth about?

If you missed its original run, you’re in for a treat. Snowball Earth is a thrilling blend of post-apocalyptic survival, epic kaiju battles, and mecha action.

Here is the official synopsis for the series:

“For shy young Tetsuo, the only friend he’s ever known is the giant robot Yukio. Together, they defended humanity as its ‘saviors,’ standing against galactic monsters that invaded from space. After surviving a desperate battle in an escape pod and spending eight years in cold sleep, Tetsuo finally returns to Earth, only to find a world in ruins—entirely frozen beneath a blanket of ice and snow. Carrying the promise he once made to Yukio deep in his heart, Tetsuo takes his first steps into this strange new icebound planet now known as Snowball Earth.”

    Who is behind the series?

The anime is directed by Munehisa Sakai, with series composition by Shigeru Murakoshi and character designs by Toshiya Kono. The Japanese voice cast features Takuto Yoshinaga leading the charge as the protagonist, Tetsuo Yabusame.

The first season consists of 13 episodes, all of which will be bingeable on Netflix on release day. Better yet, the series has already been officially greenlit for a Season 2, meaning you can invest in the story knowing there’s even more snowy mecha action on the way!

When and where is it coming to Netflix?

Snowball Earth will be available to stream on Netflix starting Sunday, October 4th, 2026.

Currently, we can confirm the series is bound for Netflix in the United States and Canada, though other international regions are also expected to receive the show on the very same day. (As always, regional availability is subject to change, so keep an eye on your Netflix app as we get closer to October!)

It’s going to be a busy October anime slate for Netflix, with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 among the big titles on the way.
