NECA's Stunning Shogun Horror Line Reimagines Ghost Face, Jason, and Leatherface as Feudal Japanese Warriors

One of the biggest collector surprises at San Diego Comic-Con wasn’t a sequel or movie announcement.

It was NECA unveiling Shogun Horror, an ambitious new action figure line that reimagines some of horror’s greatest icons as legendary warriors from feudal Japan.

Debuting at the show were three instantly recognizable killers: Ghost Face from Scream, Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th, and Leatherface from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, each transformed into beautifully detailed samurai-inspired warriors.

According to the display (shared by Eric Goldman), the new universe “fuses traditional Japanese folklore with horror cinema,” transporting modern horror icons into an alternate timeline filled with warlords, demons, assassins, and blood-soaked battlefields. Every character has been redesigned with historically inspired armor and authentic feudal-era weapons while preserving the instantly recognizable traits that made them horror legends.

The first officially announced figure is Ghost Face, standing in 7-inch scale with extensive articulation and a tailored soft-goods cloak for dynamic posing.

The figure comes loaded with accessories, including two versions of his signature knife, a knife sheath, a katana with sheath, a bisento, interchangeable hands, and an alternate head. Somehow, Ghost Face’s iconic elongated mask translates perfectly into the aesthetic of feudal Japan, creating one of the most striking reinterpretations of the killer we’ve seen.

    Jason Gets the Samurai Treatment

Also on display was an incredible reimagining of Jason Voorhees, complete with weathered samurai armor, a battle-worn hockey mask featuring Japanese-inspired ornamentation, and traditional weapons replacing his usual machete-heavy arsenal.

The design manages to preserve Jason’s hulking presence while making him look as though he stepped directly out of Japan’s Sengoku period.

    Leatherface Becomes a Feudal Executioner

Perhaps the most unsettling of the trio is Leatherface, whose stitched human mask and gruesome appearance blend surprisingly well with layered samurai armor.

The character looks less like a chainsaw-wielding butcher and more like a terrifying executioner from feudal Japan, complete with a katana and armor that still evoke the crude, handcrafted aesthetic fans associate with the killer.

The figures were displayed under the revived Takatoku Toys banner, with signage describing Shogun Horror as a universe where classic horror villains are reborn as shoguns, warriors, assassins, and executioners inspired by Japan’s Sengoku and Edo periods.
