Krampus is a demonic creature who is the opposite of St. Nicholas and punishes misbehaving children in exchange for giving small gifts to well-behaved children. When a child loses his Christmas spirit, he is called into town and with the help of the Dark Elf takes the whole family, leaving the one who called him as the only survivor, and hands them a bell with his name on it to keep. The film has become a cult classic, and this year marks its 10th anniversary, but for the first time, a Krampus action figure inspired by the film will be available for sale. The film initially exceeded box office expectations, grossing $61.5 million worldwide on a $15 million budget. In the film, Krampus enlists the help of several dark elves to kidnap humans, going from house to house, leaving the last elf to call him and his family to kidnap them and return to his underground lair. Krampus is packaged in a window box with an opening flap and has artwork on all sides featuring the character in various poses, his name and logo on the cover as he holds his hand over a snow globe containing a house, and images of him on the sides and back. The back also includes Krampus inside the snow globe and an explanation.
In the movie, Krampus was depicted as a large, bulky, demonic, dark figure resembling St. Nicholas (Santa Claus). This figure pays great homage to his on-screen appearance, standing approximately 10 inches tall and wearing a long red robe with a black wash, ripped and torn sections and dark red stripes. The robe has a sculptural texture with plush beige trim around the head, arms and along the bottom of the feet. This part of the robe has a rougher carved texture compared to other parts, but for Santa Claus this would be the softest part of the robe. The robes are fitted with irremovable chains, some of which have gold locks. There are bells on the back and bottom of the chain that can be dragged behind you. This feels good.
His head sculpt resembles St. Nicholas (Santa Claus), but his eyes are black with red eyeballs, his black mouth has beige teeth, and more teeth at the back of his mouth (I don’t remember this from the movie, but it’s a nice touch!), his long washed gray beard, gray mustache, and cleanly finished facial details with wrinkles in his skin indicate that he is very old. There are two large goat horns sculpted on top of the head, both curved and looking great and painted.
Krampus has two tongues that go into its mouth, one curved and one pointing downwards. In the box, the tongue is pushed deep into the mouth, but this was difficult to reproduce and I was worried that it would be difficult to take it out, so I made it without using any force when pushing the tongue deep into the mouth. Both tongues look great and create dynamic poses and iconic scenes from movies.
Also included are seven interchangeable hand sculptures, each with their own purpose and inspired by different scenes and poses from the movie. My personal favorites are the hands with claws that can hold accessories, the neutral pose of the wrists right out of the package, and the hands with pointy fingers. These are the most memorable for me. Some of the fingers also have rings on them, which may remind you of the movie. The skin on the hands is gray, with long black nails, and the palms also have claws.
It also includes a snow globe with a house inside, and if you watch the movie all the way through, you’ll remember the cave full of snow globes with houses that he captures whenever he’s summoned when someone loses the Christmas spirit. A human being and a family are packed inside each of them. A box that can hold bells and wrapped bells is also included, and a lid is also included.
Finally, Krampus also includes trinkets that can be used to attach and decorate the chain as shown in the instructions. These have hooks that fit into the loops of the chain and come with some large bells and some very small bells. Some of these are probably carved with human or animal bones, and you can place them wherever you like.
Small items such as bells are small and easy to lose, so be careful when handling them.
The bottom is flat, you can see that there are some cavities under the suit, both hooves with carved fur, holes at the bottom of the hooves, and the bottom is flat.
His articulation is also limited, which is not surprising considering his physique and character design. He is given a ball-jointed head and neck, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, swivel-hinged wrists, and swivel ankles.
All in all, Krampus is very similar to the original and I’ve been waiting 10 years for a figure like this inspired by the movie. So this release did not disappoint and was well worth the wait. Every aspect of this figure is incredibly detailed and you can tell that the design team worked harder than ever with this release to give fans the best likeness and accessories possible.
