Vashi:Ahead of the first edition of Navi Mumbai Comic Con, the city’s cosplay community gathered for a special ‘Cosplay 101 Masterclass’ organised by Comic Con India at ApeCity on Monday. The session offered enthusiasts an opportunity to learn character creation, exchange ideas and prepare for the two-day pop culture event scheduled for November 28 and 29 at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre.
The masterclass was conducted by three experienced cosplay artists, Arindam Paul, Grand Champion of the Indian Championship of Cosplay (ICC) 2026; Shima Angom, winner of Pop Culture Hiroshima, Japan, in 2022; and award-winning creator Sanskar Kale, who specialises in foam armour, props and costume fabrication.
The experts shared practical insights into costume selection, material sourcing, foam crafting, wig styling, VFX make-up, prop-making and performance techniques. Participants also witnessed a hands-on demonstration of elements from Jin Sakai’s character in the video game Ghost of Tsushima, including his mask, headband and dagger. Budgeting, safety and convention etiquette were also discussed.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Paul said, “It was lovely interacting with both old and new faces, especially the enthusiastic volunteers who took time out to attend the session. I genuinely hope the workshop was helpful and that everyone puts their learnings into practice at the main Comic Con event.”
Angom said seeing years of hard work on costumes come alive on stage was athe experience special
Kale said, “There is no greater joy than doing what you love! The people were amazing, the energy was incredible, and I had an absolute blast being there.”
The initiative aims to nurture Navi Mumbai’s growing cosplay community and encourage creative expression through design, performance and pop culture
