Disney+ is developing a new sci-fi adventure TV series that pairs a rising star with a promising young actor. The project draws inspiration from a well-known Walt Disney World attraction and features an unusual time-spanning premise.
As per a Deadline report, Catherine Laga’aia and Deacon Phillippe are set to star in Spaceship Earth, a new Disney+ pilot. Their characters have yet to be revealed.
Jason Fuchs and Michael Waldron wrote the pilot for 20th Television. Fuchs will serve as showrunner, while Lee Toland Krieger will direct. Fuchs, Waldron, Krieger, Adam Fishbach and Adam Fasullo are executive producers.
What else do we know about Spaceship Earth?
Spaceship Earth’s story follows a mission to stop an imminent global catastrophe that goes wrong. A small group of teenagers from Earth’s past and future must join forces to face a threat connected to time itself. The plot brings together young characters from different eras, though the studio has not shared further details.
The series takes its name from Spaceship Earth, an attraction inside EPCOT at Walt Disney World. The ride traces the history of human communication, from early cave paintings to modern technology. Elaborate sets and Audio-Animatronics figures bring these historical moments to life during the roughly 16-minute experience.
The attraction’s official description highlights humanity’s progress through communication and innovation. Academy Award winner Judi Dench narrates the attraction, while Emmy-winning composer Bruce Broughton created its original orchestral score.
Laga’aia is best known for playing Moana opposite Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s live-action adaptation, released in theaters in July 2026. She previously appeared in Prime Video’s The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart and will lead the thriller Crashout. Meanwhile, Phillippe recently wrapped his first leading role in the indie drama Brother Save Us and is working on Netflix’s adaptation of Better Than the Movies, based on Lynn Painter’s young adult novel.
