Nintendo and Mojang Studios have confirmed details about a free Switch to Switch 2 upgrade for Minecraft, which will be available for a limited time.

Those who picked up the original Nintendo Switch version digitally will be eligible. You’ll be able to claim the Nintendo Switch 2 equivalent on the Nintendo eShop by January 31, 2027. According to Nintendo, this will be available “in most territories”.

It’s also possible to get a discount on the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection. Right now these are showing as 75 percent and 60 percent off respectively on our end.

Note that Minecraft has been sold physically on Nintendo Switch. That said, we’re not currently hearing anything about an upgrade if you have the boxed copy.
