Be still, our millennial hearts. On Wednesday, Rare Beauty, Selena Gomez’s makeup brand, unveiled its newest collaboration with a very familiar face. Gomez teamed up with her childhood bestie, Demi Lovato, to bring Rare Beauty’s latest campaign — “Still Making Each Other Blush” — to life.
Celebrating Gomez and Lovato’s decade-spanning friendship, the campaign <a href="https://comicvibe.com/apple-watch-series-12-and-ultra-4-adding-two-new-features-soon/” title=”Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 adding two new features soon”>features the new “Delena Soft Pinch Blush Bundle,” a sweet callback to the fan-coined nickname for the childhood besties who starred on Disney Channel together. The $50 blush bundle is now available on RareBeauty.com.
“Selena and I have shared a lot of memories over the years since childhood, so being able to connect in this way, in a campaign that feels so nostalgic to both of us, is such a full-circle moment,” Lovato said in a statement. “I’ve loved her liquid blush since she launched the brand so this was really fun to work on. Being on set together felt like we were back in our old bedrooms making YouTube videos and playing with makeup.”
Gomez echoed Lovato’s sentiment, adding, “The experiences I’ve shared with Demi are truly unique. Coming together for this campaign was a beautiful reminder of that history and a chance to celebrate who we are today. One and the same….always.”
Rare Beauty teased the collaboration on Tuesday, sharing an “upload” button and a glimpse of what looked like a teenage girl’s bedroom. Fans were quick to predict a Gomez-Lovato collab, dropping GIFs of the former Disney star in the comments.
On Wednesday, the promotional video starring the famous Disney duo was released. The video, inspired by Gomez and Lovato’s YouTube days, was peak nostalgia: Gomez and Lovato are seen dancing around the room with makeup brushes in tow, looking at past photos together and speaking to the camera.
“I went on YouTube recently and looked at our vlogs together,” Lovato recently told Elle of her and Gomez’s YouTube channel. “I think that was something that really captured our innocence at the time and our drive to have a presence in front of people while still staying true to ourselves.”
For the campaign photo shoot, Gomez and Lovato paid homage toPrincess Protection Program, the 2009 Disney Channel film they starred in together. Drawing inspiration from the film’s official poster, Gomez and Lovato are seen sitting on stacks of luggage in gowns and tiaras.
Gomez and Lovato first met in 2002 when they were 7 years old while waiting in line to audition for Barney & Friendsin Texas. They ended up being two of just a handful of kids cast in the show’s seventh season. Their friendship continued to blossom, and soon, the besties found themselves both starring on Disney Channel. Gomez starred on Wizards of Waverly Placefrom 2007 to 2012, while Lovato appeared on As the Bell Rings,a Disney Channel short series, before landing her breakthrough role in Camp Rock.Like Gomez, Lovato then landed a starring role on a television show of her own, Sonny with a Chance, from 2009 to 2011.
Both stars launched solo music careers around this time too: Lovato released her debut album, Don’t Forget,in 2008, while Gomez’s album, Kiss & Tell, with her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene, debuted in 2009.
Gomez and Lovato drifted apart before eventually finding their way back to each other. The Rare Beauty founder attended the opening night of Lovato’s It’s Not That Deep tour in Orlando back in April. She celebrated her longtime friend’s success with a series of heartfelt Instagram stories.
“I am in tears,” Gomez wrote on Instagram in April. “@ddlovato – this was hands down one of the best shows. Oh and the VOCALS? Psh *blown away.*”
Nearly 25 years later, the Princess Protection Programstars are still showing up for one another. Their new Rare Beauty campaign is proof of that fact.
“There have been different chapters throughout our lives, and naturally, friends are in each other’s lives heavily at times, and then sometimes you’re not in constant communication,” Lovato told Elle of her relationship with Gomez. “But Selena is someone that I’ve always loved and adored. It’s really great to be in a place today where we can collaborate on things, but also just hang out and spend time together.”
