Microsoft has kicked off a promotion seemingly out of nowhere to push people to pre-order Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on its platforms, rather than those of its competitors.

If you pre-order the game on Xbox Series X/S or PC through the Xbox app / Microsoft Store, you’ll receive $5 / £4 / €5 in store credit, which can later be used across the Microsoft and Xbox stores.

The promotion ends today, 1st September at 8:95pm PST / 11:59pm EST / 4:59am BST (2nd September). Though Call of Duty’s X account only posted about it on 29th August, it is – according to the terms and conditions – actually <a href="https://comicvibe.com/digital-fashion-items-for-vrchat-based-on-matsuken-samba-ii-are-now-available-for-purchase/” title=”Digital fashion items for VRChat based on "Matsuken Samba II" are now available for purchase!”>available to pre-orders made between 28th May and 1st September, so you may already be eligible if you placed your pre-order after that date.

According to the same page, customers will receive a pop-up notification on PC or Xbox within 35 days of Modern Warfare 4’s launch to let them know the voucher’s been granted. You can also find it under Offers & Credits under your profile. The credit itself has to be redeemed by 15th December, and spent within 90 days of redemption.

The offer is valid in in the US, Canada, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, UAE, and the UK.

Incidentally, the offer applies to both the game’s standard and Vault editions. This is notable because the £100 / $100 Vault Edition comes with a 10 percent loyalty discount, bringing the price down to £90 / $90.

The royalty discount is available to players who own and have played any of the Call of Duty games released over the last several years. This counts for players who claimed and played the games on PlayStation Plus, too. The list includes Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Modern Warfare 3 (2023), Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7. The discount is only valid on the same platform, however, meaning you’d need to pre-order Modern Warfare 4 on the platform you played any of those older games on.

Sadly, that means no such discount on Switch 2, as none of the games listed above are available on a Nintendo platform. Modern Warfare 4 is the first Call of Duty title in over a decade to launch on a Nintendo platform.

Modern Warfare 4 releases 23rd October on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2.
