Meghan Markle Reportedly Dropped From Netflix Series After ‘Intense’ Backlash
Meghan Markle has reportedly been dropped from plans to appear in Netflix series The Gentlemen following intense backlash in the UK.
The Duchess of Sussex was recently reported to be in early discussions about joining the third season of Guy Ritchie’s crime drama, which is a spin-off of his 2019 film of the same name.
However, former Vanity Fair and New York Magazine editor-in-chief Tina Brown has now claimed that the plans to cast Meghan have been withdrawn.

Writing on her Substack, Brown said she had learned that Meghan’s reported casting in the series had been reversed.
“I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn,” she wrote. “The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward,” she added.
The claims come just days after reports emerged that Meghan was considering a return to acting following years away from the profession.
According to Variety, Meghan had been in discussions about a possible role in the third season of The Gentlemen, which stars Theo James and Kaya Scodelario.
However, the actress was reportedly only in very early talks and no contract had been signed.
The third season has also not yet been officially greenlit, meaning there has been no confirmed casting announcement from Netflix. Neither Meghan nor Netflix has publicly commented on the reports.

The speculation surrounding the potential role came shortly after Meghan and Prince Harry announced that they would be moving back to the UK with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for an “extended period”.
The couple have lived in California since stepping back as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020.
Their plans to spend more time in the UK led to speculation that Meghan could be looking to resume her acting career, having stepped away from the profession after becoming engaged to Prince Harry in 2017.
Meghan rose to international fame playing Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits, appearing in seven seasons of the series before leaving acting behind. She also appeared in films including Horrible Bosses, A Lot Like Love and Random Encounters.
More recently, she made a brief appearance as herself in the upcoming Amazon MGM comedy Close Personal Friends, which stars Lily Collins and Brie Larson.
The appearance marked her first on-screen performance in several years, although The Gentlemen would have represented a return to a traditional acting role.

The potential casting had already attracted significant attention in the UK, with reports of Meghan joining a major British production prompting debate over whether she should return to acting.
The Gentlemen is based on Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film, which starred Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and Colin Farrell.
