Meagan Good says her relationship with Jonathan Majors grew stronger because of the controversy surrounding it, revealing that the couple deliberately shut out outside criticism as they got to know each other.
During an appearance on IRL with Angie Martinez, the actress discussed how she and Majors navigated the public scrutiny that accompanied their relationship, which began shortly after his 2023 arrest on assault charges.
“I think what’s interesting is it only brought us closer ’cause we had to make a conscious decision to drown out the noise,” Good explained. “We had to make a conscious decision to protect each other, to check on each other, to be in tune with each other.”
Good acknowledged that the attention surrounding their relationship was difficult, particularly for Majors, who was dealing with a level of public criticism that she said was unfamiliar to him.
“For Jonathan, a lot of it was new,” she said, explaining that her own experiences with public scrutiny had prepared her to navigate the situation differently.
Good also revealed that their relationship wasn’t simply about her supporting Majors through his legal troubles. She credited him with helping her through personal difficulties she hasn’t publicly discussed.
“What I was dealing with privately that people aren’t really, you know, aware of, he brought me through,” she said. “And breathed life back into me.”
The couple first became romantically linked in May 2023, approximately two months after Majors was arrested following an altercation with his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
In December 2023, a jury convicted Majors of misdemeanor assault and harassment. He was subsequently sentenced to a year-long domestic violence intervention program, and Marvel Studios severed ties with the actor following the verdict.
Good remained publicly supportive throughout the proceedings. During a January 2024 interview, Majors described her loyalty by saying she had “held me down like a Coretta,” referencing Coretta Scott King.
The comparison drew criticism, including a response from Bernice King, who wrote, “My mother wasn’t a prop.” Good later embraced the comparison herself, declaring, “I am his Coretta, though.”
Good and Majors announced their engagement in November 2024 and married privately at their Los Angeles home in March 2025.
Now, more than a year into their marriage, Good says the relationship has moved beyond the circumstances that initially brought them closer.
“It’s me and you, you know, it’s us against the world,” she told Martinez. “And we’re just the way that we’re locked in.”
She described their first year of marriage as a chance to build the everyday friendship they hadn’t been able to experience while navigating more serious circumstances.
“We started at step one, and we slid all the way down to step eight and nine,” Good explained, adding that they eventually got to return to the earlier stages of building their relationship.
“Now we get to breathe,” she said, describing their ability to enjoy married life and work on projects together.
For Good, that includes rediscovering the kind of friendship she enjoyed as a teenager.
“It’s just literally like being married to your best friend,” she said.
