VisionQuest might have just teased a second season in its latest promo. The show was always designed as the final installment of the WandaVision trilogy, but an extension of the story is looking more and more possible. The series has told an impeccable story so far, keeping fans on the edge of their seats with its engaging mysteries since the two-episode premiere on October 13. With the success it has enjoyed on Disney+, Paul Bettany’s hero returning for a second season is largely possible.
Marvel Studios shared a spoiler-filled teaser for VisionQuest‘s finale, and one peculiar phrasing in the marketing hints at more to come. The teaser compiles shots of the season’s standout performers, with T’Nia Miller’s Jocasta appearing alongside Ultron, while Tommy Shepard and Vision also feature. One pointed shot shows two people reviving Vision, one hand clearly Tommy’s and the other, face unseen, seemingly Billy’s.

The caption is the more important detail, though. The Marvel Studios account describes the forthcoming Episode 8 as the “season finale,” meaning the closing of a batch of episodes, rather than the typical “series finale” label used when a show ends for good. A studio as meticulous as Marvel chooses its words carefully, especially since it has a long reputation for hiding big teases in small details.
Vision came to terms with his identity in Episode 7, embracing himself as the original Vision. The finale is primed for an epic showdown between the synthezoid and the mysterious Client, now revealed to share a face with Ultron’s human avatar, and the stakes are high, with Jocasta powered down and taken into custody at the Client’s behest and FRIDAY dropped to her apparent death.
After Vision is done with the Client, fans are already wondering where his story goes next. VisionQuest was not included in the essential viewing list Marvel Studios released ahead ofAvengers: Doomsday, and Bettany isn’t confirmed for either Doomsday or Secret Wars. Perhaps Marvel intends to continue Vision’s story on streaming rather than in theaters, although a Secret Wars appearance remains a strong possibility.
What Are the Chances of VisionQuest Season 2 Happening?

A second-season order could be tricky given that Marvel Studios is significantly scaling back its Disney+ releases. Wonder Man, for example, was canceled in July despite a previously announced renewal, a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score, and an Emmy nomination for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Even Daredevil: Born Again, the rare Marvel series to run multiple seasons, will conclude with its upcoming third season.
Renewing VisionQuest while letting shows like those go may sound odd, but studios ultimately answer to the numbers a series pulls in. VisionQuest shot to number one on Disney+ shortly after its two-episode premiere, although chart position alone doesn’t guarantee big viewership.
According to Luminate, the series accumulated 639 million minutes watched in its first 10 days, ahead of Wonder Man‘s 549.6 million across eight episodes and Agatha All Along‘s 426 million. It’s worth noting that VisionQuest‘s tally covers only four episodes, a solid return so far, and once more Luminate data pours in, the numbers should climb.
The bar for renewal at Marvel Studios has risen considerably, and the data has to be much stronger, but Marvel reportedly sees the series as a win, and showrunner Terry Matalas has said the story“doesn’t necessarily have to” stand on its own, with its future “up to the Marvel and Disney gods.”
VisionQuest is also blessed with powerful, compelling characters Marvel has no room for on the theatrical side. James Spader’s Ultron dazzled audiences with his thought-provoking musings and his intriguing view of life and humanity. The trilogy also introduced fan favorites like Tommy, Billy, and Jocasta, all of whom viewers would love to see again.
Perhaps Marvel Studios will create an entirely new series continuing the story without calling it VisionQuest Season 2, much as the trilogy’s other entries did, each standalone yet interconnected. There’s also the matter of the Secret Wars reboot, with Marvel reportedly eager to put much of its continuity baggage behind it. Room for a follow-up looks scarce, but stranger things have happened in the MCU.
