Manga Mavericks has announced new summer releases, including print debuts of The Pipe Machine and Horon of the Closed Country, Vol. 1, as well as new titles in continuing series like Fishgod and Zigoku’s Foreman. The publisher also announced updated release dates for existing titles.

    Here are the details.

    Manga Mavericks summer print releases

    Author:Sen

What the Protective God takes will never return.

A god hides and protects an ancient land from foreign enemies, but to do so, sacrifices must be made. In recent times, the god has been encroaching more on humankind, with only people with special powers, Quietists, able to drive them back. An unlikely trio, each of whom has lost something dear to them, find themselves journeying to unravel the secrets of the Protective God and the Quietists. Little do they know that what they have lost, the frequent appearance of the god, and the need for sacrifices are all connected…

    Fishgod, Vol. 1

The world is infested by Kaigyo: fish that walk on land, eat concrete, and destroy buildings. Their typical behavior is bizarre enough, but ten years ago, Jaytle Nish witnessed these pests become murderers while under the command of a mystery person clad in black and ate his parents whole. He takes on a job exterminating the fish while looking for leads but instead finds a strange woman eating poisonous kaigyo flesh. From deadly fish to mysterious cultists, the odd duo will take on it all in this pop art-inspired revenge action series!

    The Pipe Machine, Vols. 1-2

Saburo is a normal kid—or at least he tries to be, but the bizarre finds its way to him with alarming precision. First, a weirdo with a samurai haircut clad in just underwear is hanging around his town, then his father builds an honest-to-god time machine that looks like a giant metal smoking pipe. A quick test of the pipe time machine flings the poor boy into the outer realms of space where robots, space captains and a girl who looks very similar to a friend at home await him. Keep all limbs in the pipe and prepare for a funny, fast-paced, and very bizarre adventure in The Pipe Machine!

    Vegetable Sandwich, Vol. 1

High school student Tsukushi has got the look of a thug, but he has one pressing issue: he’s a weakling through and through. Sure, he has the earnestness to learn, but that can only take a person so far. Warabi, on the other hand, is a crazy strong elementary school student, but doesn’t have anyone she considers a friend. A chance encounter with a lion escaping from a zoo brings the two together, where they realize, despite a myriad of differences, they have plenty in common too. If anyone can be a student in the pursuit of strength, can anyone also be a teacher? With art inspired by 80s shonen manga, this is a vegetable you’ll not only want to enjoy first but all the way till the last bite!

    Zigoku’s Foreman, Vol. 2

There’s hell to pay, but only after a hard day’s work! Clock in again for Zigoku’s Foreman! Mizuchi’s got an admirer, much to his chagrin. Sure, he gets free booze out of the deal, but free things often come with price tags that are just out of sight and are always more trouble than they’re worth. Still, the work’s gotta get done, and Mizuchi’s not about to let an amorous stranger or the guilt of being a monster who slays monsters get to him. There’s no time to feel down in hell. With old lady monsters trying to eat him and demons to slay, Mizuchi has a hell of a checklist to get through!

Horon of the Closed Country, Vol. 2

    Author:Sen

    On Sale: August 25

    13+, 148 pages, $6.99 (Digital)
    Pre-order

    A daughter, a memory, and an arm…

Darshna, Horon, and Kera are three individuals from whom a guardian deity has exacted a “sacrifice,” taking something important from them. Together, they have traveled to Edan, the “Town of the Shrine Maiden”, the very place where Kera was robbed of their arm. The group decides to attend a festival being held in honor of Neij, the town’s shrine maiden, who has been summoned to the central capital. Amidst the festivities, Kera is stopped by a familiar voice, one that stirs up long-buried memories of the past. Kera, a former flautist now deprived of an arm, and Neij, their childhood friend and the current shrine maiden of Edan. Where will the intertwining paths of their hearts ultimately lead?

    Fishgod, Vol. 2

Jaytle and the team receive a request from LisBarrier Inc., maker of a trendy new cosmetic, to conduct a kaigyo extermination operation. The operation goes off as planned, but Jaytle is later summoned by no less than LisBarrier CEO Lisetta Eltista, who confides that there’s a possibility that their VP is involved with an organization that controls the kaigyo. Now tasked with a secret investigation into the VP’s activities, Jaytle and the others put on their best and attend a swanky industry awards ceremony, when who should appear but a mysterious yet strangely familiar figure….
