Announced at RuneFest, the Project Will Explore Bringing the World of Gielinor to the Screen, with More Details to Be Revealed in 2027

Los Angeles, CA – October 3, 2026 – Lyrical Animation announced today that work has begun on a new animated series based on RuneScape, in partnership with creator Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White and Game Developer Jagex. The project will explore bringing the game’s world to the screen, marking a new step in Jagex’s ambition to expand RuneScapebeyond the gaming ecosystem. Lyrical Animation will produce the project alongside White’s Meatier productions.

Jagex CEO Jon Bellamy revealed the project to thousands of fans at RuneFest in Birmingham, UK,  following the Old School RuneScape keynote. Development is at an early stage, with further details set to be announced in 2027.

First released in 2001, RuneScape is a fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Jagex. Set in the medieval fantasy world of Gielinor, it allows players to forge their own paths through quests, combat, exploration and cooperative adventures. Over 25 years, the franchise has expanded to include RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape Dragonwilds, with more than 300 million accounts created and more than $3 billion in lifetime revenue generated across the two games.

“For 25 years, our players have helped shape RuneScape’s extraordinary world, its characters and its stories,” said Bellamy. “When we talk about the future of RuneScape, we don’t just mean games. We see huge potential to bring Gielinor to life in new ways, both for the millions who already know and love it and for a whole new audience. It’s early days, but we’re excited to explore that potential with Charlie and the team at Lyrical Animation, and we wanted our players to be the first to know.”

White, a longtime RuneScape player, is one of the world’s most widely followed digital creators, with more than 25 million followers across his channels and platforms. His content generates approximately 145 million views each month, with his YouTube videos averaging 1.8 million views and his nightly livestreams drawing an average of 15,000 concurrent viewers.

The announcement comes on the heels of news of White’s other collaboration with Lyrical Animation, Godslap, a 2D hand-drawn animated feature adaptation of his hit comic, currently in production and slated for release in 2028. Lyrical Animation is also producing an upcoming anime feature adaption of Death Stranding, the action-adventure game developed by Kojima Productions, and developing a feature adaptation of PlayStation’s Bloodborne alongside PlayStation Productions and creator Seán McLoughlin, known as Jacksepticeye, with parent company Lyrical Media co-financing the project alongside Sony Pictures.

“Runescapehas such a unique storytelling voice, at once laugh-out-loud funny and effortlessly insightful,” said Daniel Dominguez, Creative Director of Lyrical Animation. “To be allowed to help bring that to life for its millions of fans alongside our dear friend Charlie again is a dream come true.”

Lyrical Media is a Los Angeles and New York-based company that develops, produces, and finances unique stories across multi-media formats, including film, television, video games, animation, podcasts, and graphic novels. While focused on generating its own IP, the company also develops and revitalizes established IP and, in doing so, opens new verticals for creator-driven stories. Lyrical Media’s upcoming film slate includes Osgood Perkins’ The Young Peoplewith NEON and The Troop, based on the acclaimed and widely beloved novel by Nick Cutter, which was recently acquired by Paramount Primal. Earlier this year at CinemaCon, it was revealed that the company’s animation arm, Lyrical Animation, will be producing a feature adaption of PlayStation’s widely popular game, Bloodborne, alongside PlayStation Productions and creator and gamer Seán McLoughlin (JackSepticEye), with Lyrical Media co-financing the project alongside Sony Pictures. Lyrical Animation will also produce a feature adaptation of Godslap, the hit comic created by YouTuber and streamer Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White. White’s announcement of the project currently sits at 3.3 million views.
