Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – For seven-year-old Lucien Bysina, heroes aren’t on the big screen – they’re drawn from his imagination
Bysina’s artwork recently opened the door to written storytelling, earning him national recognition as a contestant in the <a href="https://comicvibe.com/fix-my-phone-codes-october-2026/” title=”Fix My Phone Codes (October 2026)”>2026 Stan Lee Super Kid Competition, a national contest celebrating young creators through reading, writing, and art.
To enter, the Rising Leaders Academy student designed an original character named “Sun Man” and wrote an accompanying backstory.
“One day there was a superhero, and his name was Sun Man,” Bysina said. “And the world had darkness in it. And then this, like, little ray covered the whole world in its light.”
Contestants are vying for a grand prize that includes $25,000, four VIP passes to the 2027 Los Angeles Comic Con, and a featured illustration in a special-edition Stan Lee comic book.
School leaders say the contest reflects their mission to develop well-rounded students.
“All of that working together helps give them a solid foundation because we find literacy not just in the middle of reading class,” said Rising Leaders Academy Principal Alison Johnson. “There’s also literacy that pours into math. So all of the curriculum kinda flows together.”
Lucien’s mother, Shayla Petty, said watching his artistic curiosity evolve into written storytelling has been a proud milestone.
“It’s really cool to watch his imagination come out of his head and actually get down onto paper, like with the story that he wrote for a Sun Man,” Petty said. “It’s just been really great to watch him take that fascination with superheroes, turn it into storytelling, and then be so brave to go out there in the community and say, ‘Hey, I’m doing this, and I’d like your support.’”
Petty said if Lucien wins the competition, the $25,000 prize will go directly toward his college fund. Supporters can vote for Lucien for free every 24 hours as he advances in the competition.
