Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–2020) remains one of the most important entries in the franchise, largely for how it enriches the prequel trilogy era, as it spans the three years between the films Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005).
The long-running animated series follows several characters, including Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein), Anakin Skywalker (Matt Lanter), Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor), and Padmé Amidala (Catherine Taber) as they navigate the Clone Wars across the galaxy far, far away.
It has since inspired several other Star Wars projects, most notably the live-action Ahsoka series on Disney+, led by Rosario Dawson in the title role alongside several characters from the animated series Star Wars Rebels (2014–2018). The first season featured flashbacks set during the Clone Wars era, with Ariana Greenblatt portraying Eckstein’s version of Ahsoka in live action.
Hayden Christensen also reprised his role as Anakin Skywalker in those scenes. Now, Ahsoka Season 2 is set to follow suit, as the first official trailer (below) features similar flashbacks, with Greenblatt and Christensen back in their respective Clone Wars-era roles. The upcoming season will also revisit a major Ahsoka storyline from the animated series, as revealed in the new teaser.
Hayden Christensen Wants a Live-Action Clone Wars
While Ahsoka essentially replaces the cast from the beloved animated series, it seems Christensen himself wants even more prequel trilogy actors back other than himself for a potential live-actionClone Wars. He recently told the Hey Jonas! podcast that he would love to work with his Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith co-stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Samuel L. Jackson again, adding that he wants to “get the band back together.”
“I know that Ewan McGregor would love to do more with it,” he said. “I’ve heard Natalie [Portman] would love to come back. Sam[uel] Jackson. So you could get the band back together.”
Whether or not a live-action Clone Wars will ever happen remains to be seen; for now, Ahsoka Season 2 may represent the closest we’ll ever get.
Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, and consists of eight episodes.
